^^ It's actually quite a good phone - were it not for the hopeless screen resolution I'd probably get one myself. RE: Why no one comment on this?
Give it WiFi and a 320 square screen and it's a contender, until then well... RE: Why no one comment on this?AdamaDBrown @ 12/6/2007 3:22:11 AM #
Numlock, sounds like you're describing the Samsung SGH-i780. Cool unit--pity it doesn't support the North American GSM/3G frequencies. IMO, no 320x320 WM6 device from Palm in 2007 is a VERY bad sign!
The fact that the 750 looks to continue in production WELL into the future (and be a main part of Palm's product lineup) looks to be quite an ill omen for 2008. IMO, the 755p is the best exectuion yet of the "classic" Treo formfactor. It's absolutely mind-boggling to me that Palm did not see fit to release a 755w or 760w (basically an improved 750 w/ WM6 pre-installed and the 755p's higher capacity battery and 320x320 LCD). What are the main criticisms of the 750? Battery life, OS, and screen resolution. Palm could easily have addressed all 3 of these in one fell swoop and still continue to sell the existing 750 (with WM6 pre-loaded) as an entry-level model. Since Palm didn't see fit to release a WM6 version of the 755p, that is a bad sign for several reasons: 1. The carriers are so down on Palm that AT&T/Orange/Vodafone etc. cannot even be bothered to request a proper 750 successor. 2. Palm is in "circle the wagons" mode and doesn't want to spend a PENNY of in-house R&D $, even if it's a mild makeover of an existing, well-received handset. 3. Palm is not going to do ANY in-house heavy lifting anymore and/or they're in the process of migrating the whole lineup to rebadged WM offerings (ala 500v) and various respinnings of the tiny Centro. If Palm does get around to releasing a "755w" in Q1 or Q2 2008 the market will alread be full of WM6 and 6.1 devices with many more multimedia whiz-bang features. My best guess is that not enough carrier interest existed due to the, ahem, lukewarm initial response to the 750, so Palm passed on a 755w in favor of the (rumored) upcoming 800w that's supposedly larger than a Centro but smaller than the current Treos. BUT, the 800w has only been rumored to be available in CDMA form for Sprint & Verizon, so a 320x320 GSM Treo would still seen to be a no-brainer to me! Sure, but you forget its Palm. They very likely have both on the roadmap, just cant get it together enough to ship anything on time ever. Start with a roadmap thta is already way too slow, then add incompetance, and delay after delay and you get Palm of today.

As to this stupid phone. It is a lousy phone. It is not worth over 300. Palm is so stupid. No one needs Plam to make WINCE phone. Only Palm phone needs Palm to make.
