Comments on: Google Now Offering Gmail IMAP Access

Google is beginning to turn on IMAP access for users of its web based Gmail email service. IMAP is generally a better option for mobile device users as it allows clients to remain in sync regardless of how or where the email is accessed. Using IMAP you can keep the same information synced across all devices so that whatever you do in one place shows up everywhere else you might access your email.

The service is free to users of Gmail and Google mail. The option can be found on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab in your Gmail "Settings", Not all accounts have been activated yet, but Google says they are currently working to enable all users as fast as they can. Instructions on configuring you email client can be found here.

chattermail - doesn't appear to work either

arw4f @ 10/24/2007 5:32:44 PM # Q
I've tried unsuccessfully to setup gmail imap via chattermail on my Treo. Gmail appears to have no root folder for it's imap access, but chattermail requires one.

Anyone have success getting chattermail to work with the new gmail imap access?

Chatteremail works fine for me. I just made sure to set the checkbox for SSL for the imap server, and it fetched the folderlist. If you move a message to a folder, it even applies the tag and out of the inbox.

I've been able to get chatteremail to work with the Gmail IMAP. I understand that there's a problem with attachments and html code that are related to the program. I haven't been able to get anything but the inbox on chatteremail. When I archive the email in gmail (after designating appropriate labels), it disappears on my treo. Does anyone know what the proper settings in chatteremail are?

I can confirm it works perfectly with Chatteremail.

Did you get the attachments and HTML to work?
I have an emailtreo account and that works fine with chatter, if I forward anything from gmail to emailtreo (with attachments or HTML) it works just fine, however when I download to my treo straight from gmail, I am having a lot of trouble with attachments and HTML. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Labib

Starred in Gmail

Anyone know why Chattermail seems to flag messages so they are starred in Gmail...but only sometimes? I'm using Mail for Mac on my desktop and it seems that either when I read or something on the Treo this happens. I have the sync off so not sure why Gmail is even being affected after the message is downloaded.
