Comments on: FontSmoother v2.0 Released

Alex Pruss software has released FontSmoother 2.0 for Palm OS. FontSmoother enables you to display smooth (antialiased) custom fonts. It works across almost all applications on your hi-res Palm OS 5 device. It also includes a number of free smooth fonts and you can convert Windows TrueType fonts with the free EasyConvert utility.

FontSmoother sells for $12.95 USD. There is a free 8 day trial, after which all smooth fonts default to their non-smooth versions until registration is completed.

a few clarifications

It works like the registered version for a week, then disables functionality in everything except bible-reading programs. Not sure if it nags you too.

It's a great program, with version 2 you don't need to use a separate hack manager, and the author doesn't churn registered users (buy it once, upgrades are always free). Nice.

This kind of thing should be standard...

FontSmoother looks fantastic and works perfectly with (nearly) every app. Be warned: if you do install the trial, you'll find it very hard to go back to looking at the standard Palm system fonts once it's over.

Used in conjunction with PalmRevolt (http://software.palminfocenter.com/product.asp?id=1153) you'll find your Palm looks (almost) as modern as any WinMob device.

Personal recommendations: 14pt Arial as the general system font, Trebuchet MS 13pt for the Phone app. It doesn't play very nicely with AvantGo or Blazer.
