a2dp bluetooth stereo While Palm OS users have it easy enabling A2DP stereo bluetooth support on thier devices via Softick Audio Gateway, 700w/wx users have so far been out of luck. An enterpsing user over at TreoCentral has found a hack/soultion to get A2DP working on the Treo 700w and 700wx. Once installed you can listen to your music wirelessly via a pair of Bluetooth Stereo headphones. By the way, the Treo 750 already has A2DP support it built in.

Someone please relieve my ignorance about AD2P and wireless audio.

Does BT have the consistent ability to transfer "CD quality" music to the headphones?

If so, then why is it still basically an niche technology. For a couple of years now, I've been wondering why Apple has not taken the next "logical" step with iPod and went "wireless".

That's one of the main reasons that I dislike MP3 music ... that stupid snagging wire. While working or exercising it seems that wireless would be a huge hit. Yet, it seems to have little traction with the herd?

Someone please enlighten me on this.

I'm not sure how well it works for other solutions like the one in the article, but Softick Audio Gateway sounds very good. Maximum bitrate is 304kbps for mp3's - so yes, it's basically CD quality. Depending on the BT headphones you have quality can vary slightly.

Mr. Jobs has been quoted as saying he doesn't think the sound quality is there yet, hence why we haven't seen it on iPods. (although i think there's more to it than that)

What I really want is SAG to work on the 680. C'mon Softick, it's been out for months now!

You go wireless and you open the way bigtime to sending the music to a device other than earphones.

it's not cd quality-- the 304 kbps is after mp3 de-compression, which happens on the device, not on the headphones. cd's send data at 1.1 mbps. still, a2dp sounds very good, and really is a big deal for me at the gym. i added it to my ipod using an adapter from icombi.

CD quality? Irrelevant. If it is "iPod" quality, then it makes no sense to me why this is not the hottest thing going. DRM is the only stifling thing I can imagine holding this back.
