Enfora Updates WiFi Case for the Zire 72

Enfora today announced the release of a new version of their Wireless Portfolio case that will now work with both the Tungsten E and Zire 72 handhelds via the Mini-USB ports.

The WLN0104 case is a portfolio style, leather case with an integrated WiFi receiver and battery. There is also another model that works with many palmOne handhelds with the Universal Connector.

Because of the significant power requirements of WiFi, the WP802b includes a self contained 700mAh LiPolymer rechargeable battery. It has a pass through connector and the capability of simultaneously charging both the portfolio and the handheld through the standard palmOne-supplied charger. Also important is the added flexibility offered to the user by leaving the SD slot available so it can be utilized for storage of photos, music, applications, etc. The binder, which zips closed, provides added protection as well as space for business cards and ID cards.

The case measures 6 x 4 x 2 inches (LxWxH) (152 x 102 x 51 mm) and weighs 9 ounces (0.2kg). It supports data rates of 1, 2, 5.5, and 11 Mbps, though the actual rate will be limited by the speed of the connector. It also supports the 40-bit/128-bit WEP wireless security standards. It has a maximum range of about 150 meters outdoors and 30m in an indoor office setting.

"Enfora is pleased to offer the only available Wi-Fi solution for the palmOne Tungsten E and a new alternative for Zire 72 users," said Christian Allred, vice president of sales (Americas) at Enfora. "Our goal is to offer education, healthcare and business consumers an economical solution that allows them to stay in touch effectively while using their handheld devices."

The Wireless Portfolio (WLN0104) is available for purchase today for a suggested Retail price of $149.00. It will be offered through palmOne's online store as well as through multiple Enfora Online retailers.

T5 solution

Gar @ 10/7/2004 7:39:36 AM #
It might be a touch big for some, but for the business user that is looking to buy the T5 this would bring the WiFi the unit is missing from the factory. My understanding is that the T5 uses a usb cable but it isn't the mini usb connection that these cases use. I'm sure one that work with the T5 is just around the corner. A bit big to carry in one's pocket though.

Well if they (Enfora) eventually release a version that is compatible with the multiconnector found on the T5, then I would assume, or rather hope, that it would also work on the Treo 650/Ace since they will both use the same connector...

Yipee! I've been waiting for this for 9 months to make my Tungsten E worthwhile. Note that it's still listed as backordered on the Enfora website, though.
