New worldwide market research shows vast differences between the mobile device markets in each region. The most noticeable trend has been the rapid increase in smartphone sales. Nokia took the lead in the overall market with palmOne in second still atop of the US market, while Clie sales for Sony slumped.

Develant Technologies today released a significant update to their game development platform GapiDraw 3.0. The release adds Palm OS 5 and Tapwave Zodiac support to the GapiDraw platform. The cross platform SDK could bring a large library of quality games to the Palm OS.

SanDisk has announced the availability of a new 256 MB + Wi-Fi SD Combination card, the world's first card to include both memory and WLAN (802.11b) communications in a single SD card. The card is currently compatible only with Windows Mobile handhelds, Palm OS support is planned but the timeframe is uncertain.

palmOne announced that summary judgment had been issued in its favor dismissing Xerox Corporation's claim that palmOne's former text-entry system, Graffiti, infringed a Xerox patent. In a decision released today, Judge Michael A. Telesca of the United States District Court for the Western District of New York held that the Xerox patent was invalid.
