Palm Lends a Hand in Roadside Emergencies

Palm is now the first wireless computing device to lend a hand to stranded motorists. 1-800 Tow Truck is offering a free tow truck referrals and taxi requests to stranded drivers using a Palm VII wireless device. More at this CNET article.

Interview: Ask Maven the Palm Gameboy emu developer

We will be conducting a Slashdot style interview with Maven, developer of Liberty, the Palm OS Gameboy emulator. Liberty is due to hit the Palm scene any day now. GameBoy Emulator Still Not Ready

Despite sending out a press release last week that implied that the long-awaited GameBoy™ emulator for the Palm would be ready July 4, the Gambit Studios site contains this message, "We are excited to announce the first GameBoy emulator for the Palm platform is undergoing final testing and will be available within the next few days! Thanks for your patience."

It is interesting to note that it has apparently been renamed from Gambit to Liberty.

UPDATE: Aaron Ardiri, user interface developer for the Liberty emulator, posted a few screenshots here to calm the nay-sayers. The release date could be any day now. Please be patient, a lot of time and effort has been invested in this and it will be quite worth the wait! -Ryan

ZDnet PDA Software Awards Winners Announced

ZDNet 2nd Annual PDA Software Awards The results are in and the ZDnet Palm OS Program of the Year is BackupBuddy NG. The Peoples Pick award went to AvantGo. Winners were also announced in several other categories, like best games, hacks, PQA, etc. These nominees were all chosen from applications that were new or substantially updated between March 1999 and March 2000.

New PalmModem Coming Soon

You might have noticed that the 14.4 Kbps PalmModem has gotten hard to find. The Palm Online Store no longer carries it and neither do most retailers. However, without any fanfare, a notice has appeared that Palm is developing a faster version. Details are very scanty, including how fast it will be, the release date, and the price. They do say it will work on the entire Palm III series.
