New Sony Palm Prototype Pictures

Click the read story button for a few new pictures of the Sony Palm Prototype PDA on display at PC Expo. A few of the pictures came out a little dark and blurry, it was tough just trying to get a decent angle with the large crowds around the display. In person I though the device was roughly the size of a Palm V but a little thicker. Sony had 2 units on display behind glass; one with a black screen (color display) and the other had the traditional Palm gray/green screen. Keep in mind that this is a prototype right now and may go under revision prior to reaching store shelves "before Christmas." As Mike Cane noted in his Expo report Sony was extremely tight lipped on details. The only thing they would confirm is that it will run the Palm OS and come in grayscale and color models.

I hope everyone will notice the Memory Sticks I mentioned in my Day One report. Digital video, digital still cameras; TV tuner; FM data tuner; and GPS. Sony needs those to get its PDA out front. Without them... mc

Takashi Sugiyama, general manager of Sony’s network-service business center, said Sony plans to roll out the machine in mid-July in Japan, followed by the U.S. later this year. The gadget will be on shelves "in time for Christmas". He declined to reveal how much the device will cost consumers, saying only that it will be "competitively priced".
