Comments on: The Week in Review

The big news last week was all about the low end of Palm's product line. Over last weekend, rumors were flying that the Palm IIIxe had been discontinued. A couple of days later, we learned it was true and that the m105 would be its replacement. Near the end of the week, we were able to release some advanced details about the m105 before it is available next week.

Still, I can't imagine what it'll be like when the new generation of Palms with the ARM chips arrive... let alone the new color Vx... whoops, I mean the M505!

Do you think the Vx and the IIIc suffer any danger?

Not immediately, but down the road, of course. They're still popular, viable products.

 Yes they do.

It appears Palm is going to go with a 5 unit lineup.

m100, m105, m500, m505, Palm VIIx.

the m500 is the Palm Vx replacement, the m505 is the same size as the m505 (ie. Palm V sized) but has full color and represents the replacement of the IIIc unit. the Palm III (non-color) series also dies to be replaced by the m100 and m105. The Palm VIIx remains for the foresable future due to its unique capabilities.

I believe Palm is going to discontinue the Vx and IIIc in the next few weeks. As the previous poster said, these are being replaced by the m500 series. Also, Palm is going to release a new wireless model before the middle of the year that will replace the VIIx.

I wouldn't consider this "danger" though. The Vx and IIIc are starting to get long in the tooth and are going to be replaced with models that are superior. This has advantages for everyone who owns one of the old models or is considering buying a new model.

If you already own a Vx or IIIc, the price for the peripherals is about to drop as vendors try to get rid of their stock. Also, people will be selling them on auction sites. If you are considering a new Palm, there are about to be a group of superior products on the market for you to choose from.

I just sold my Vx on ebay and I was really surprised that it didn't go for nearly as much as Vx's did just weeks before. I think the guy got a good deal...

Palm have always screwed you with the lack of common peripherals between models. It looks like it might improve, but the first casualty will be the III Series...

Why doesnt palm keep the III series as a test bed for new technologys and for people (like me) who could care less about the look of the palm

 m300?

I was thinking... the III series is being discontinued, replaced by the m100 series; the same apparently applies to V and m500.

Will there be a m300 series?
