Comments on: Stores Begin Advertising m500, m505 Still MIA

Reader reports on m500 and m505 availability have continued to come in. They report that stores have begun to put advertising fliers in this weekend's newspapers for the m500 but none have seen anything for the m505.

Staples is advertising the m500 for $400 with a free 16 MB Sandisk SD memory card. Other Staples stores are offering a free PalmPak Games SD card instead.

Circuit City and Best Buy are advertising the m500 for $400. Best Buy offers a $20 mail-in rebate if you also buy a 32 or 64 MB SD card ($80 and $140, before rebate).

I got a 500 frm staples a few days ago. I saw the ad today advertising the FREE 16MB Card. I called up he store and talked to the manager and he said I could bring in my sales slip and the flyer and they would give one to me but he did not have them in stock so check be the end of the week. Also I asked him if he had the 505. He replied there in the back room but not on display. I asked for the price then he put me on hold. When he came back he said, "My mistake we do not have them I confused it with the 105." I think these store have them put have to wait until May whatever it may be becasue PALM told them to hold them....

As someone that works at Staples, I can assure you that no store has the m505's yet. The earliest we will get them physicaly in-store will be at the end of this week or even the middle of next week. Different districts have different warehouse delivery dates, so i can't give an exact date or time.

Believe me, I'm waiting for them to come in myself! I'm the lucky one that gets to put out the PDA displays ;)

I purchased an m500 last week at Office Depot. Today they had an ad in the Sunday LA Times offering a free 16mb Palm memory card with purchase and coupon. I went back this morning and they gave me the memory card with no hassle when I showed them the receipt.

I just managed to walk in to my local Staples this afternoon and get this (i.e. no reservation and I got the free SD card too). None were on display and most of the employees didn't know they were in stock. Manager sed they had "just a few" in the store.

Saturday the 28th, I stopped by Staples in Morrow, Georgia (South of Atlanta) and asked about the m500 series. The manager was working the PDA area and told me that the 500's were in but the 505's would not be out for "several more weeks". I asked him if I could buy an m500 (not really interested in the color) and he told me that he could not put them on sale until Sunday the 29th at noon. He said this was per their agreement with Palm and that if he sold me one on Saturday that they could be fined $30,000.00. I asked him if I could just see one and he brought out the sealed box and let me look at that and read the specs off the box. The next day I was there at 12:05 and purchased one, receiving a free 16 mb SD memory card to boot. My summary of the new unit is as follows: it is lighter than the Vx but as a result, does not feel quite as sturdy as the V series. The unit does not slide into the cradle the way previous units have, requiring a tilting, then pushing motion according to the manual. It does emit a beep when inserted properly so you do know when it is in place. It works faster than the Vx due to the higher processor and the sync time is quick due to the USB cradle vs serial. The case is silver and looks lighter than the more graphite Palm Vx. The power button has an LED light that is on during charging or flashs with alarms. Two new added functions are the clock and notepad. The clock has a tiny icon in the top left corner of the grafitti area and the contrast has a tiny icon at the top right corner of the same. The left silo is very narrow and will not accomodate a stylus. Palm has carried over the cheap leather flip cover from the V series that fits via the new small left side silo. The screen is more sensitive than previous palm units. The buttons have a more decisive feel (could be my Vx buttons were getting worn out though, making me think that). I like it but it by no means makes the Vx feel dated at all. In fact, the Vx, due to the more solid feel still emits a higher quality form factor overall.

The m500 came in on Thursday or Friday, not sure which. The store I work at got 10 (Brentwood, TN). Most stores should have gotten the same or more depending on area.

I have a good friend that is a manager at Best Buy. He has been checking on the m505 status for me regularly. As of Friday, the computer was telling him June 1st as an ETA. We are in Pittsburgh, PA. The demand here is much lower than the West Coast. Staples plans on getting them early May and noone here can confirm a date. As long as the Penguins are winning, my IIIxe will tide me over.

First off, please don't post any message here saying that the m500 is available in your area. It is now widely available throughout the U.S., at least in limited quantities.

Also, I just deleted a long thread of messages responding to someone who claimed to have bought an m505 in Miami this morning. I called the phone number given, which was for an Office Depot by the way, and spoke to the manager. He not only didn't have any m505s but was tired of people calling who said they had read that he did. So the messages have been removed, as I don't believe in rewarding people who play silly pranks in any way. Let's grow up, people.

m505 Prophets

Folks,

While we are waiting for the Palm m505, there are "prophets" claiming "the existence in their warehouses" or "ready to go on May 1st". I wonder if anyone would take the hype to the next level: Put it on eBay. Well, there are! From telling you to bid on the "firm order that was made before went into back-order status" to "info package that leads you to get it at wholesale price", someone are dare to bid on it as high as $560! One e-tailer, Direct Digital, offers 3 units for bidding while the $399 deal is "sold-out" at its own web site.

It seems the hype works for Palm this round. However, the question is: Can Palm fill the demand? I have a funny feeling on its new design side-lit color LCD touch-screen. I think the manufacturer may have problem to crank out in volume with high quality, despite the reported deal between Samsung and Palm. It reminds me about the similar situations for the Apple iMac and Sony PS2 (of course, they have created even bigger hype).

Will geek line up for the "holy m505" outside Staple, Business Depot or even Blackhole? Will those retailers get flooded with mountains of e-mail and phone call about the release date? So for the next couple of days (hopefully, not weeks), tune in the "Prophets' Channels" and on our knees!

I spoke to the guy from direct digital and he said that he should get them within the next week or so. I was one of the winning bidders and have placed good faith in him that he will ship once he gets a new set in ASAP..he mentioned that he had two earlier but those went fast--once the new ones are posted on his website they will go up but he has a reputable record so i look forward to a smooth tranaction. at least this person is getting for 50 dollars less

I was abe to place an order on the Direct Digital web site for $399. I got a confirmation of my order. When I emailed and asked for a ship day I got:

"Most items take 7-10 business days to ship. Please see our information page for more details."

I sent back a reply asking if he really had one in stock for me. I'm waiting for a reply.

Has anyone done business with these guys before? Are they legit?

We had a Sprint rep recently tell us that our company could buy Kyocera's for $399 if we bought some through some sort of business plan (Nationwide Volume Plan I believe). No minimum number purchase either. Now this from Staples.

Looks like Kyocera has decided to price these babys to sell. Smart move, I think. Price them the same as the new Palms and Visors, and it suddenly becomes a lot harder choice for those who think they might want a cell phone/wireless solution.

Kyocera's are a HIGH margin item. Certain companies have deals set up where they get a discount of 12% above cost where I work. Thier price for it is $351.78. Think about how much everyone is making on them. We make more off of these phones than off of computers.

Interesting. Of course, it makes sense that providers are willing to sell these things cheap, as they get some sort of service contract out of whoever's buying.

It kind of makes you wonder how much Palm manufacturers are making on Palm devices. I mean, here we have this Kyocera, only a few months removed from availability, and they've already got providers selling them for $100+ off retail. And the Kyocera is a somewhat complex piece of hardware, at least as far as Palm's go. The margins on these things must be insane.

A case of selling cheap razors and profiting off blades. These deals comes with "plans" so they make money off the service contract or the Kyocera unit are not selling too well that they had reduce the price so soon after introduction. I don't think these "new" gadgets are high margin as some manufacturer like Handspring is still losing money.

I don't know about the kyocera (we don't sell that) but at my store we have very dismal margins on palms. we sell at list price for them, and we barely make 15% (not much in the technology sector!) But products like the m100, are very inexpensive to manufacture (about $50, then palm sells to distributer for $80, then distributer sells to us for $110, we sell for $129) and a lot of markups occur between palm and the consumer! You guys may think we make a lot of profit, but let's go back to the m100, of our $20, how much is shipping!?! sometimes we save that cost by running out to the distributer and getting them ourselves (when we buy from certain distributers, that is), but selling palms is really a thankless job!

Hmm, if selling Palms is such a thankless job because the margins are so low, then why are retailers like Staples and Office Depot running newspaper, radio, and TV ads featuring the Palm m500? I just saw a TV ad an hour ago that featured this unit. Funny thing to do for such a low margin product.

we don't make much profit off of just one or two sales, but when people buy in quantities or a lot of people buy, it's worth our time. when we put up an add, we asume that it will reach enough people for it to be worth our time, or it will at least help us get our name out there. Infact, selling to individual consumers IS thankless, if you don't have exactly what they want instock, then they get all pissy! Because of this we are starting to aim our pda sales at corporate buyers. think: 500 palms (yes companies buy this many) @ $25 profit each (not the m100, the Vx) = $12,500! that is the type of profit we are looking for!

You don't say! Are you sure you're not going to get in trouble for releasing that ultra-slick strategic plan?

For some reason, I was under the mistaken impression that retail outlets were geared to serve one customer at a time. Now I know that the dismissive attitude I get from the salesperson must come from the fact that Michael Dell was in there half-an-hour ago and snatched up 500 Palm's from you guys and paid retail price, making even those razor thin margins worthwhile.

Perhaps you should let your retail customers know how detrimental our business is in your advertising so that we can do you a favor and stay away.

The reason the Kyocera is a high margin item is because it is a consiered a cell phone. Price's are set by Sprint on what to sell it at. If we sold it at normal markup it would probably be aroudn $350-$400 instead of $500. PDA markup is similiar to computer markup, both are very slim.

I've seen the m500 in stores since two tuesdays ago (office depot) but won a free one just thursday (i'm holding out for color). My quest continues to find the m505 as soon as possible. I work for a reseller, and we are expecting them very soon (palm said april 30th, so let's see how THAT turns out) and my local staples said may 1st (but the guy a talked to didn't know what a PDA was; he thought the "palm m505" was a printer or phone . . .) I'm betting we get it sooner then staples, and i should have one in my hands by end of day, monday

I just got a chance to play with an m500 at the local comp usa. The form factor is great (small and light), and the screen surface appears to have a 'stickier' feel to it...more like the feel of paper and less glare. The stylus has a nice feel and really 'snaps' into place in its holder. The included flip cover is fairly cheesy, but who's going to use that anyways?

As for the m505, the kid behind the counter said that his mother worked at palm and she has had an m505 for 2 months. He said the screen is very bright, and is better than the IIIc. He also said that it wasn't coming out until mid to late May. I'd like to believe him since he was working at the San Jose Comp USA and Palm headquarters is just a few miles away.

I guess we'll know in a few weeks!

I think palm have deliberatly released the m500 ahead of the m505 due to the hype surrounding the m505. If you went into a shop and had the option of both no one would buy the m500. I think they are trying to heighten sales of the m500 first.

Actually, from a Devil's Advocate perspective, I think they've hurt the sales of the M500 with their actions. I may end up buying the M500 should some of the concerns about the screen on the M505 prove true. However, until I *see* the color unit, its black and white cousin will remain on the shelf. IMHO, both units should have shipped the same day.

I just got back from a Staples in Oklahoma and they told me they should have the m505 on Monday or Tuesday. But of course I have heard so many rumors lately I don't know what to believe.

man, staples won't tell me a straight story. THEY told me last wendsday they were supposed to have it in on thursday. I called thursday, and they said "no clue". Friday I called and they told me Monday (april 30th). yesterday I called and they said May 1st. today i called and they said "palm won't release untill may 8th". (i couldn't tell if this was when they got them in or when they can sell them, she wouldn't tell me) LISTEN: i talked to a different person almost every time! EXCEPT when they said thursday, i called twice and two different people told me the same story (THAT was a first). I don't know for sure!

PS: i DO work for a reseller (not staples or another mass-merchendiser) who sells palm products. we are #1 on our supplyer's waiting list, and they were supposed to recieve them from palm on April 20th. They DO have the m500 however (have for awhile; not sure how long) and palm told them about three weeks from then on the m505. Assuming they got the m500 on the 20th (although they actually got it sooner) that would put them in my store BY may 11th. (probably sooner)

It's Monday and they didn't get it yet...

I went by my local Staples and they hadn't received the m505 yet but they did have the Game Cards and the US City cards in stock. Also the local Office Depot has the new m500 carrying cases.

I just called the Staples in Citrus Heights, CA (Sacramento Area) and they said that they would have the 505 on Friday. They said that they would also be getting the cases and other peripherals on Thursday.

It's not soon enough!

I called Staples this morning to check on my order, and for a minute there the sales person said he thought they had them. He placed me on hold to go check; only to come back and say, "I am told that we will not have them til May 8th."

Seemed that his reply was stiff and something he was told to say. I really got the feeling that they do have the 505's and that they are holding them hostage until May 8th.

Did anyone get this kind of answer?

Although I am a big Palm enthusiast, and I preordered my 505 and got a low number, I am truly burnt out listening to all the speculation. It will be here soon. I am as tired as I was watching the Florida election mess, or even watching the OJ trial. Got to hold an m500 today and it was nice, BUT IT'S JUST A PALM PILOT! Circuit City is advertising 64MB SD cards, so you'd better hurry. Supplies are surely limited.

I agree, very tiresome. At least I got the HaCkMe program while it was briefly offered, so transferring registered programs won't be any hassle. Did anybody else get it? It's way too cool--so cool that it was pulled off the site several hours after being introduced.

So stop listening! Who's making you read these boards? The only reason you are reading them so often (several times a day I bet) is that like everyone else you want to hear the moment they become available so you can run down to your nearest Staples and beat the other geeks to the goods. HaCkMe is a 10K utility that allows you to set a custom user name for each app to read as it launches. If your Vx was named you would have to name your m505 something else if you wanted to sync on the same desktop. You would need new codes for all the programs you paid for (which are calculated from your username). Kind of a headache to get new codes from the developer. you can open up HaCkMe on your m505 and enter for any selected app. and your app thinks it's on your Vx. Can use any number of usernames. Beautiful, although somebody must have realized that there was a great potential for misuse. All you would need is your friend's code and his username to use software unrestricted. I think it was on Palmgear for only a few hours. I was lucky to buy it when I saw it.

The M500 is in Staples, Future Shop, Compucentre. These are the brick and mortar stores in the Greater Toronto Area. The rumours from the stores about the date for the M505 coincides with what the U.S. stores are hearing, so we should see it at the same time as the U.S., which apparently is any minute or sometime later this year.

Futureshop stores in Toronto have the m500. You might have to ask them to get it from the back though as the ones I went to didn't put it out yet.

Got to try one and the screen is a slight improvement over my Vx. I still can't figure out why the made the slots on either side different sizes. Not only must you get a new case but you can't the Palm in the case for left handed use (though I'm not a lefty).

Futureshop guy also said the m505 will be out in a month and cost $900 CDN but then such statements from those guys shouldn't surprise you.

On the radio news last Thursday, I heard a funny item -- a guy in New York had a "Honk if you love Jesus" bumper sticker on his car and when the guy behind him honked, he got out of his car and beat him with a tire iron. As he was led into custody by police for assault, he was quoted as saying he forgot the sticker was there.

"Christians" expect to be persecuted. They count on it. It's the key to their self-righteous superiority.

But it appears that some of them use Palm and not PocPC, so good for them!

I was just playing with it in a store yesterday (in Hong Kong), and I find it too thick and and long to carry around. It's thicker than an ipaq, I might as well get an iPaq. Unless you don't plan on carrying it in a pocket, this isn't for you. I'll wait for the m505 and see.

Big Deal, do not really on the specifics of coolness!!!

I did that when I bought the Sony PEG-S300, which I plan to sell as soon as I get a buyer (??##) I originally wanted the Vx but since it did not have a memory stick or anything to run programs from or backup in addition to the desktop!

Misinformation, persently you cannot run programs from devices such as SD, Mstick etc...

So now that the m505 is comming out, I will not make the same mistake again. Rethink what is really important on an device to you and do not overspend on features you might never use.

I bought my clie 2 months ago, i do not think it resells like palm. Also keep in mind that sony does not give customer the chance to upgrade its processors, ROM etc.

Palm does!!!

And this is from a person that has more than one sony product!!!

they did mention that the palm m505 would be delayed for mass distribution (by a couple of weeks), however, the launch date would be on schedule...and they have the audacity to state that the m505 could even be available by mid April! hah! no m505s to be seen around...

plus, if you want to see the color screen in action,
cnet has a good video with the CEO of palm holding one up.

Staples Atlanta can not say when they will have the 505 in stock. They are still offering the preorder for $20 (refundable) with a free sd game card. Also the stores are offering $20 off any purchase of $100 on 4/30, 5/1 and 5/2.

I preordered hoping the unit will be available 5/1 or 5/2. Wish me luck.

I'm sensing a building consensus, at least as to Staples stores, that the m505 will be available on May 8. Sounds like it took Palm/Staples (or "Paples," as I like to say) a while to get their story straight. And I'm guessing the units roll into the stores -- and into a hiding place -- a day or two before that. They're probably on a big ship right now, tooling on over to California. Trucks are gassed up and waiting.

I hope mine is having a comfortable ride. I'm going to name it Soupy.

Hate to kill the joy for the next few days but I have spoken to a representative at palmyes.com and they have been informed that Palm has once again bumped the date to the end of May for the m505. Don't know what has caused the delay but that is the word that they have received---this has got me fed up so much that I have decided to say bump the color I am going to go to the m500 which will be just as good. Palm should have just released them both at the same time.

I am just frustrated right now.

Hmm... Well, maybe Palmyes.com is not first on Palm's list. Different stores have said different dates, but my point (in the original posting) was that Staples' story seems to be becoming consistent. And others have speculated that Staples would be the first to receive the m505.

A guy at Office Depot San Diego says that thier central warehouse has them (m505), and the stores will get them "any day now".

I am really good buddies with a statples employee at the electronics counter. He told me today that yes, they did have it in, but no, I can't have it yet. He really wished I could get it today, but said they had signed an agreement with Palm promising not to sell it before then. Too bad, though.

BTW: I didn't ask to see one of their models since I just saw one at a palm champs seminar in Itasca last thursday. The screen is much better in reality then the poor pix and reviews of pre-production models would lead you to believe. Yipee!

I do believe on the back of the Palms it specifically states "Assembled in the USA". Ah hah! Found the reason for the delay! Good 'ole American Craftsmanship.

I was told May 7 at my local Staples, and Office Depot said the 10th. It seems Palm wants at least two full weeks/weekends with the m500 being the center of (no one's) attention.

After security nicely showed me the door; I thought that maybe it would be May 8th.

Hmmm. I just called Staples.com twice about my order of the M505. My status page at their site said "shipped". They insisted it was out for delivery, but they did not have the tracking number available. Has anyone else experienced this? I ordered on 16 April and they applied a $40 coupon on 18 April. Both of the sales people seemed to indicate it was indeed shipped, and the last one told me that she would submit a request to the warehouse to have them call me with the number.

I talked to a manager at a Sacramento Staples who told me that they would have cases and peripherals for the 50X series on Thursday, May 3rd, and that the 505 would be in on Friday, May 4th!

Maybe the ship that "soupy" is on has kicked it into high-gear!

When I put down my deposit at Staples for the m505 I was given a one page flyer that was apparantly an in-house notice of the anticipated shipping dates for the m500 and m505 plus basic specs on both models. That sheet said the latest date for the m505 was May 8th.

I have a feeling that this is where the May 8th date is coming from and is probably subject to change. I am not going to get my hopes up.

The expected shipping date for my m505 order at Staples.com is now May 14. (It had been something meaningless like January 31 or something.)

I am on preorder at an Atlanta Staples store. Today the manager called "corporate" to check on their shipping. He said they told him the units would be available May 10. This seems consistent with the May 8 "shipping" date as store personnel reported they normally receive merchandise like this a couple of days before the "available" date.

It seems that we have to, more and more, take everything with a grain of salt. So far, there has been no HARD evidence that there are ANY m505's in stock at retailers at this point, despite lots of buzz to the contrary.

I ordered first thing Thursday morning when it was posted on this site that edigitalstop.com had the 505's in stock ready to ship. Ready to ship meant they were shipping on Monday, I guess ;)

I called again Friday to verify that I made it on the first round of shipments, and Pat (the only person to answer the phone everytime I called...about 4 times total) assured me I made it. I received a confirmation email from them.

Well Monday came, so I decided to call once more to see if my unit got shipped out. Unfortunately, I found out that I didn't make it on the first round of orders (speaking to Pat, once more...is this the only guy who works for this outfit?). I canceled my order on the spot.

I will say that my credit card was NEVER charged through this whole process, so that was OK.

I also ordered first thing last Thursday morning and I was assured it would go out yesterday. Well at first a woman told me it was shipping UPS Ground and living in the city I would have it Tuesday or Wednesday, but then she put me on hold and came back to say I did not make the initial "first thirty" and they would be getting more units in 5-7 days. She swore that they did not charge my card, which I verified with Discover, so for the moment I am keeping the order open. I need two m505's, hopefully one from Staples and one from these a**holes. I also have had the FIRST order with outpost.com since March 19th, but they don't even provide me with a ship date. I think they first place I'll get it from will be Staples and then my wife will have to wait till I can get a 2nd unit from one of these scuzzy e-tailers.

Those who questioned edigitalshop.com were partly right. No units that I have heard of went out, but they DID NOT charge my account- so I wait like all the other drooling idiots, myself included. :-)

I guess you guys can't get hurt TOO bad if you are using your credit card. If they weren't honest before, however, why would they be any more honest now? All evidence from other retailers points to the fact that they do not and never have had any m505's in stock. One could presumably believe that they may have recieved theirs two or three days before everyone else (Thursday), however, it looks like nobody else has them even now, which makes their story more unbelievable.

Incompetence is one thing, however, I have a hard time doing business with people who are lying in my face!

Yesterday you could order the M500 on the Futureshop website and you could pre-order the M505, which had an expected shipping date of May 1. It appears that both of these links are gone and there is no mention of either device on the website. Quite peculiar.

I understand the incredulity at a 30th delivery, but that's what the fella said. I just found out that the guy I spoke with is the manager, but he could be blowing steam to get me off the phone. If he were just trying to get rid of me, I'd have expected him to give a week-out estimate... of course, he did say that he personally would not be in tomorrow to answer my call. Most of Palm's team are a bunch of Apple rejects! Go read the Bios of the "Management Team" at palm.com. Most of them were former Apple employees who Steve Jobs probably fired for incompetence and poor execution. Then you have a few former 3COM employees (yeah - 3COM's done well in the last few years - NOT!). And we wonder why these nimrods can't bring a product to market in time. Then you have Yankowski, who basically ran Reebok into the ground. I'm very upset with these bufoons ruining a great company like Palm. If Hawkins was dead, he'd be rolling in his grave!

I agree- this shows all of the signs of a really poorly managed company. The place where I work is going through a similar thing- bascially senior management is focused on putting out fires,turnover is high so no continuity, communication is bad, and nobody is thinking about the details.

It seems to me that this could be the last new palm we see- things are really going downhill.

Just as a point of reference- it is almost exactly 5 years since the original palm pilot was released. There were a lot of false promises about the release date, but those were mainly d/t manufacturing and the release of a 1.0 product.

I just called the local Office Depot in St. Louis, MO and the rep said that their warehouse rcd' 800 units of m505s and the stores should be getting them in a day or two. Unfortunately, you cannot reserve or make an advance payment to receive one when available in the local store. I could order over the net but am sure that there are a lot of back-orders already.

Stopped by 2 local OD stores and they have a live demo unit of the m505 on the shelves. Anyone else see this yet? They claim to not have real units in stock yet, but should any day. The demo units only run a (lengthy) demo when you turn them on. You can't use them interactivly (none of the buttons worked). They've also got a big piece of promo cardboard glued to the back of the unit. The screen was OK in the store's lights. The sidelight was on, but it must not be that bright because you couldn't really tell so under the store's lights. I hope they don't tease us with the demo units for very long!

I went to Palm's site today to check for any shipping announcement or the like. The main page advertising the m50x's (on palm.com) still has both listed as pre-order, which is obviously wrong for the m500. So I went to store.palm.com and threw both in the shopping cart. The m500 showed up as back ordered, and the m505 was still pre-order, as expected. Then I checked my order status, and it claims that the scheduled shipping date was yesterday, but it's back-ordered.

You'd think they'd use a unified product database for 3 different areas of their own website...

I am number 3 on the Palm Website (having placed my order @ 12:03 a.m. or the day they started taking orders. I feel that I will end up getting mine from Office Depot or Staples!

Someone posted this today (5/1) on the old "Shipping Rumors" story/comment page:

For any of you that ever do check these old archive let me give you the good news. I've just went
in and check on our computer and apparently our warehouse (Staples) have just received the
shipment of M505 (shown 1600 of them) and should begin shipping and arriving in the store at
the end of this week. Good luck gentlemen.

I spoke with the coporate offices of staples and after the representative that I spoke to did some research which included speaking with the buyer etc. the OFFICIAL date for the release of the m505 store wide and company wide is May 10th. I officially placed my order today with Staples.com and will get the free game card.

they can't give them to us untill the second week of may (legally, that's my 8th) or else they will be fined several thousand dollars from palm. I called my local staples yesterday and they said they had it INSTOCK. I drove over there (faster then I probably should have) and found out they couldn't give it to me untill the 8th. Su YES they're instock, but NO we cannot have them yet

Staples Whse 1700 in So. SF

I preordered a m505 this morning at a Staples in Sacramento area and the clerk told me he found 1700 m505's listed on the computer inventory at the warehouse in So.San Francisco, and that expected delivery to Sacramento was on Thursday morning. He said he confirmed this. His store will only get 3, and I was the first to make an advance purchase at this store. I think that SF area stores have a Wed delivery so maybe they will be there tomorrow. Heads up!! PS Got a free game card.

I spoke to Staples in LA where I have one on order and they claim to have no idea when they are getting their's in. They won't even give a date.

Also, a very nice guy at OD just laughed and said he was sure they were going to have it last week -- so there you go.

A PDA promo flyer has just released by Canadian Staples / Business Depot / Bureau En Gros chain. The front page is featuring the m500 (@ $629) and m505 (@ $699). Buy any Palm at its chain shops across Canada between May 2nd and June 17th, you could win a BMW Z-3 convertible!

According to the staff, expect the Palm m500 as early as today May 2nd (Wed) and the Palm m505 as early as May 3rd (Thu).
