it looks like it has speakers on the bottom of the unit RE: NooooooI.M. Anonymous @ 6/4/2001 11:55:42 AM #
It offers a chance for Acer to make some money on PDA's. Every new product doesn't have to be revelutionary or offer something new. RE: Noooooo
Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm really not fond of Memory Stick at all, but didn't Sony invent the 3.5" floppy disk (if not also the 5.25") as well as the compact disc? It's not as if their inventions don't have a precedent for becoming standard. RE: NooooooI.M. Anonymous @ 6/6/2001 9:43:35 AM #
Oh My Goodness!! This must be the UGLIEST PDA I have ever seen. This PDA make the Handera look very nice. RE: NooooooI.M. Anonymous @ 6/18/2001 2:05:51 AM #
Actually, Sony and Philips invented the CD TOGETHER!!

Does anyone know what the resolution is? The screen appears to resemble the M505, which makes me think it may be 160x160. That's too bad. One who knowsI.M. Anonymous @ 6/5/2001 3:22:43 PM #
It is actually an industry secret that all Acer is actually doing is putting a new faceplate and changing the OS on all of the returned M505

Thanks for the info...I am picture blind, and therefore can't look at a picture and make a judgement on my own.
Yes, it does look ugly. However, if it combines a low price (and acer doesn't have the pulling power of a manufacturer like sony, for example, so the price should be low) with a colour screen (even if 160x160) and sound in a small package, then it does look to offer something new. although it may not have a screen as good as the clie, a form factor as good as the m500 or sound as good as the handera 330, a convergence pda that offers all of the above in some form or another will win many buyers, IMHO. Memory stick, although not hugely popular, does have major backing and is coming along, slowly but surely. i think this pda has a lot going for it. Ant http://fly.to/clie/ RE: Hmmm...
You're making the assumption that Acer has the same perception in Greater China that it does elsewhere in the world. Fact is that Acer is the number 1 computer brand in Taiwan, number 2 in China and certainly top 3 throughout Asia Pac. In that market, the Acer brand may be able to pull some premium pricing. RE: Hmmm...I.M. Anonymous @ 6/5/2001 8:30:33 AM #
To kill the M-505, the only thing that they need to add is a good backlight, no matter if it's 160x160.

now Acer starts to produce pda's, this is GOOD NEWS !!! Sony,Acer,Handspring,Palm,Samsung.. lower prices, faster development of newer and better devices.. develop palm! :) cool... RE: This has special meaning to the Palm world
Acer joining the Palm OS camp is not just another licensing contract. This will make the real beginning of Palm OS in Greater China - a market with 1.3 billion people.
Although Palm/HandSpring/Sony have been selling well in the region, the penetration rate, compared to the market size, is still miserable. Acer's Palm OS initiative will create a powerful formula for proliferation of Palm in the biggest market of tomorrow : Chinese + Competitive pricing. Due to heavy import tax on electronic gadgets, a Palm Vx is selling for more than USD400 in China, despite recent price drop. I am sure with aggressive pricing traditional of Taiwanese suppliers and built-in Chinese, Acer' device is going to be hot in the Greater China region.

PDA's are all beginning to look the same, much like a GM Olds, Chevy, Pontiac, ect.... Isn't it time for something new and innovative to hit the market... How about a Dick Tracy PDA with all of the goodies of a Palm VIIx but in color, now that is something that will get me excited, until then I guess they will still keep on keeping on with new bumpers and tail light changes just like they did in the 70s and 80s in the automotive industry. RE: Same Old, Same OldI.M. Anonymous @ 6/12/2001 12:28:04 PM #
You are perfectly right!
There is no more innovation, even not at Palm, but only extending the blanket until it gets thinner and thinner. the whole PDA buz. should reinvent itself with a totally new approach - the only hope I have is Apple which always in history leaded in breaking new grounds. The rest of the pack only made bad copies. Or do you know anybody else exept Apple capable enough around? Boris

This version is bad. Since Acer is the leading company in foreign nations they could charge high prices and get away with it. And what new great features does it have anyway.
RE: staying put !I.M. Anonymous @ 6/6/2001 1:42:30 AM #
nothing beats its bulky size and dust in the screen. Enjoy it! RE: staying put !I.M. Anonymous @ 6/16/2001 10:30:44 AM #
Microsoft will leave you behind when they introduce Bloatware XP 2002. Just like they left me flapping with CE 2.11 when they switched to Pocket PC. Palm doesn't need to change their whole operating system every 2 years like MicroSoft because unlike MS the Palm OS WORKS !

Can PalmOS devices compete against more powerful Windows CE-based devices such as Compaq Ipaq? Is PalmOS suitabie for faster and more sophisticated hardware? RE: Competitor MicrosoftI.M. Anonymous @ 6/6/2001 1:41:40 AM #
poor WinCE fans, Where is ur market share? RE: Competitor MicrosoftI.M. Anonymous @ 6/12/2001 11:16:51 AM #
Palm OS doesn't require more sophisticated hardware to run the same apps. How have toyota and honda been able to gain so much market share versus the more powerful engine in the cadillac? Necessity my dear Watson, Necessity.

2) If Memory Stick becomes an industry standard I will know for sure that the world has gone insane.
