Arial
Century Gothic
Courier
Courier New (which is worth keeping?)
Plain
Snap ITC
Symbol
Times New Roman
I'd prefer to use Garamond for reading, for instance, or others, especially Mac fonts, but alas.
Thanks

1.12 of WordSmith required you to save as RTF on the Mac. :(
thanks.
RE: RTF
Why is text so damn small on my Clie?? IS there a way to make it normal sized? I've tried everything (larger fonts, turning off forced hi-res) and nothing seems to work. At the size it's at now, I can fit 40-50 lines on the screen at a time. I literally have to squint to read. Help!
-----------
is this in memos or docs? and which font are you using?
most fonts have a Larger version, but to change size in a doc you have to select all text to change size, but it sounds to me like you are using a small font as default. Since you are using a Clie, create large fonts and not small ones and try using one of them
RE: RTF
Very Nice!

FineType is nice-but is it "innovative"?
or "revolutionary"? Surely, SuperDoc has similar
feature and has been out for some time, but how
come hardly anyone noticed?

Doesn't work on mono screens
FineType Fonts
with the same names as my finetype-fonts (cooper black, futura md, futura xblk ...)
brought a fatal exeption in ws2.0 - except times new roman, garamond, tahoma, courier new and arial.
After some fatal exeptions and deleting all dangerous texts, I found in the "fonts" menue
some fonts with names like "°U°U°U°U°U°U.....". After deleting the file WrdS_FontDB and
restarting ws2.0, everything was OK.
I don't like it having a program that should show all the fonts I choose in a .rtf-file
with such a behavior.

It's not healthy to hold your Palm less than 6 inches from your eyes, especially when you can read some devices from 4 feet away.
Actually, the slight blurr and color fringe effect can be seen on all LCD screens, even on 1024 x 768 laptop screens, but I think it's a reasonable trade-off. It will naturally be more apparent on handhelds with the larger/brighter screens.

Also, isn't it nice to see cross platform cooperation?
Quo Vadis, Palm Reader?
- WordSmith
- MobiPocket
- SuperDoc
- and, Palm Reader for the Pocket PC!
When are we Palm users going to get fine/clear type on our Palm Readers?
Makes me wish that Palm had not bought out Peanut Press to begin with...

RE: Quo Vadis, Palm Reader?
Thank you.
There are other doc readers
Crs-MeDoc
PenDoc
PooK
- You should get a CLIE. Life is so much better with superior technology...
RE: Quo Vadis, Palm Reader?
Unfortunately, it's only color devices that can take advantage of the subpixel font rendering...
Check out the CLIE users group for WordSmith feedback
This live feedback from the programmer was a great example of how effective user groups can be for both developers and end users.
It appears that BlueNomad's support rivals that of DateBk3/4 and Ultrasoft Money.

Arghhh! No SD Card support!!
RE: Arghhh! No SD Card support!!
What a crying shame
Support for tables, to me, means that I can view my tables in the document, not that it creates some weird subdocument that contains my text, all skewed. What a shame. I really wanted to switch from Docs. to Go, but their support of tables is VASTLY better.
Maybe 3.0 will be better.
I agree
The table support is there, but is weak. I need to see the table how it will look (even if have to scroll sideways) and edit in the cells.
Not click on an icon and bring up a single column. And, with the icons, I can't tell where I am in my table / doc.
The fonts are great but since I need to edit and actually do work (i.e. more than a doc reader) I need to wait.
A.H. (creator / developor) is great b/c he's in the yahoo forum and I hope he can consider improved table support...

Is WordSmith useful?
I really want to discover all kinds of productive ways to use WordSmith (or any other text editor), because it is a cool and fun program. But I find myself pulling it up for fun and playing with the fonts and realizing I don't have anything to do on it. My job requires a ton of writing, but I'm generally at a PC. Maybe I'm just not enough of a power user. I'd appreciate comments on what tasks people perform with these programs sufficiently frequently to justify the registration price.
RE: Is WordSmith useful?
Now if only Ed could help me find out what is taking floating point so long to finish up with my stylus! I would be able to offer to write a review of this other must have (or maybe we should wait for the preview) product for him.

RE: Is WordSmith useful?
I do have a PPK ... It kicks as much booty as WordSmith (especially with LapTopHack). I guess my thing is I have two modes in my life: Work (which is when I'm near a PC) and Relaxation (which is when I'm scratching my butt in front of the TV). I think WordSmith will be useful on those occasions when I'm traveling (I do travel occasionally for work) and don't want to bring a laptop. I half-want an annoying business trip to come up so I can test it out in real-world conditions. Until then, I find myself repeatedly typing "Blech blech blech. I was here. I love my Palm. HERE'S ALL CAPS."
RE: Is WordSmith useful?
I use it in combination with two other items. The first is the keyboard, and the second is PrintBoy Documents. In our 2 times a week meetings, I type up meeting notes on my Palm and then do some basic formatting, point the Palm at my deskjet and have a copy to distribute to everyone who does not have a PC ( lots of people are still on dumb terminals here).
A second use is to take notes in the field in WordSmith, and upon returning to the office, opening up Word, retrieving the field notes from WordSmith and e-mailing them to our outside offices without spending time reformatting the text. If they just worked with templates, I would completely give up my laptop.
RE: Is WordSmith useful?
People ran into the same issue while choosing to use a palm over a address book or a pad of paper.
using finetype fonts with a mac
Also- if I convert fonts, are those just palm display fonts, or does it put them in both font menus?
(I really did try reading the manual but it was way too long.)
thanks for any help!
RE: using finetype fonts with a mac
those .pdb or .prc files to your Mac desktop, or share your Mac in the VPC ("Settings" in 4.0 or "Preferences" in 3.0) and copy there.
Still sucks there's no full-on Mac support, especially with respect to the native Word vs. RTF format. That would be swell--it's such a sigh of relief to use a Mac than my (real) PC.
