Palm Zippered Case

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/21/2001 9:35:56 AM #
I agree. This case fills a void. The standard case allows the SD Cards to scratch the case. The larger cases out there are too big. The Palm Zippered Case goes in between. I would like to see a case with this set up and size in a non-zippered version.

Franklin Covey has an absolutely great zippered case with slots for 2 cards in the back. I have been very please with this case. I think it is much better than the palm zippered case. It has glove soft leather and of very high quality.

I agree. This is the zippered case I selected. Also, my Tornado stylus/pen combo fits in the spine of this case, resting in a little "pocket" on the outside of the case. Very handy!

I mean the Franklin case, not the Palm.

I also have the Frankling Covey case. I actually use the hotsync usb plug for my computer, so it works great with the case, no folding or anything.

I have to disagree...

...with a couple of the cons. I regularly hotsync with the case on - it is flexible enough to fold on the side and hence it is possible to leave it on and have the m505 sync at the same time. Also, I don't agree that it is hard to take the Palm out of the case. After a bit of use, it is loose enough to allow easy slipping in and out of the case. In fact, I think it is a happy medium: not too hard, nor too easy (so that it would slip out when unzippered).

Zipper Problem

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/21/2001 12:49:25 PM #
I used this case for about 1 month and have now stopped. The zipper rubs, during opening and closing, against the bottom left corner of the M500/505. It has now removed the finish from my M505. The design doesn't have enough space in that corner. You must be very careful during opening and closing to keep the zipper off the Palm.

Good point, now that I pay close attention to what you're talking about, I see how it "could" rub against your m50x. So far, I've been using it for quite some time and it hasn't affected my unit, so it seems to depend on how much care you take in opening/closing your case.

You can slide an extra stylus down the pouch meant to hold the notepad, and as long as you've got a notepad in the pouch, it won't slide toward the midle of the case and scratch your 505.

Although I still use it, my biggest beef with the zippered case was not mentioned--it leaves all kinds of grease marks on the screen if you do not have a notepad in the case. I would rather go without the notepad, but I feel I have no choice, because it's the only way to keep my screen clean, even though the notepad leaves a lot of paper dust in the case/on the screen.

Alternate Palm m500 Case

Thanks for the good review. For those of you who are concerned about the zipper scratching your Palm, I recommend using a case from E&B Company. E&B cases were available prior to Palm's zippered case. I've been using the E&B case for a few months now. I have no regrets.

You know, I'd love to use the Slipper. But first, they have to ship me one. I ordered mine over a month ago, and it's been backordered the whole time. It's getting a little frustrating. (And my Palm is getting a little scratched.)

Poorly done

I tried the zippered case, but never took it out of the house. Someone posted earlier that the zipper rubs against the finish of the 505. I recognized this as a problem immediatley. The first pics online showed it with a metal zipper; mine had a plastic zipper that was hard to close. This made it a hard case to quickly open up, do something, and close. I was dissapointed overall with the quality.

In contrast, the body glove cases by GoNeo offer better workmanship, even though they are neoprene, not leather. I'm hoping they come out with a 505 model soon. I'm also going to try the Covey case.

Picked up the Covey case today. Butter!

Franklin Covey case better for m505 Protection

Davy @ 8/22/2001 12:59:06 AM #
The design allows no cards, nothing but pure leather, to even touch the screen. It has two slots for cards on the back side, and realistically, if you have more than 3 (2 in the case, 1 in the palm) memory cards, you probably carry your m50x in a briefcase anyway.

The best case for the m500 series is the original Palm cover that includes a zipped area for coins and the like. It's like: perfect.

To each his own. As long as you have a m50x, I could care less what kind of case you use, the focus is on the awesome handheld.

I also have the Franklin Covey zipper case. It is very protective, fits well. I am still waiting for a good hard case to come out. My money is on Franklin Covey as they have a great hard leather case for the Palm V.

Palm V series ??

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/22/2001 4:14:15 AM #
Any reason why this cant be used with a V or Vx ???

RE: Palm V series ??
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/22/2001 4:47:12 AM #
The Vx has a bigger silo on the left side

RE: Palm V series ??
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/22/2001 2:29:37 PM #
The security rail is too small, the silo on the Palm V is longer and wider than either silo on the M500 series. The security rail silo on the M500 series is FAR smaller than that on the Palm V.
