J-Pilot and SyncMal

I.M. Anonymous @ 10/1/2001 7:43:23 AM #
I've been using J-Pilot (which looks nearly identical to the Palm Desktop app on Windows) and SyncMal Plugin (a plugin for Jpilot that works with malsync that allows you to sync with Avantgo). There are a lot of other solutions out there too. I know that Evolution now has Palm support (a Outlook-ish type app from Ximiam still in beta, which uses Gnome Pilot connectivity) and several others. What are other *nix users using?

I'd sure like to know - now that Apple's finally released OS X 10.1 I'm DYING for palm connectivity, and I figure the Linux community is going to come to the rescue once again.

Even a command line tool, just so I can backup and install...

Palm has promised to have a version of the Palm Desktop out by the end of this year. A recent press release for Mac OS X v10.1 gave us a hint of what it will be like:

"Palm Desktop for Mac OS X takes full advantage of new Mac OS X technology," said John Cook, senior director of Product Marketing at Palm, Inc. "Instant Palm Desktop takes on a new twist in Mac OS X -- simply click and hold on an icon in the Dock to get fast access to Palm Desktop data, find contacts or create new records. We've also redesigned the look and feel for Mac OS X and improved data compatibility for better synchronization with Palm handhelds."

I have Mandrake Linux 8.0, and it also comes with something called KPilot. I still prefer J-Pilot, but it irritates me that for some reason, the text on J-Pilot on my computer is white, making it difficult to read. Anyhow, I hope this BearOps thing is nice. Has anyone yet figured out how to get it?

Peace Out

I was just up on their site yesterday to download the Desktop upgrade and got in with no ID/PW. Something must be whacked this morning.

You can hit cancel a half-dozen times and get there, then click on a link, and go back. It works, but what's up???

It seems to be fixed now...

my.palm.com is still having problems at noon PST.

my.palm.com is still having problems. They have been rebooting or updating all morning. Must be hackers, disgruntled employees, etc...
They still have not fixed the minor bugs in their web portal. What is with them? Too many layoffs?
