Comments on: Combo Springboard Camera and Webcam Coming

Targus is demonstrating at Comdex a Springboard digital camera that can be connected to a computer to also work as a webcam. The Targus HandCam can take still pictures or record video clips when attached to a Visor. These are saved to the Visor's memory but the module also has 2 MB of flash memory that are added to the Visor's. The HandCam can be removed from the Visor and connected to a PC with a USB cable, which lets it operate as a Webcam. It can also take still pictures when attached to the PC. It will be available in the next few weeks for $100.

Sorry, I got this info from a Comdex attendee. All I know is what he sent me. Targus hasn't even officially announced this product yet. When they do, I'll get you the complete info.

What the hey?

Ok, one word. WOW. If you go to visorcentral, they got a streaming demo of it. Looks REALLY good. A springboard that works out of the visor, what a freakin great idea. I am definatly buying this, targus, give me a pre-order form and you got my $100. Targus seems to be a REALLY smart company, they only sell what other people create, and only the best stuff. I bet the stowaway made them a nice sack of cash.

Wow! When I heard about this I thought that the price would be around $200. The $100 Price is unbelievable! I wanted the Eyemodule 2 for my Visor Prism but was holding out because of the price. I also wanted a type of web cam. NOw I can have both for a mere $100 bucks! Cool.

It looks like this Targus Handcam will do more than the Eyemodule2. It (Targus) has a lens that rotates, close range focus, 2MB on-board, stand alone web-cam, yaddy yaa yadddyyy

I ain't a Targus spokesman, just looking for WHAT IS THE MAX RES?

Compared to Sony MS Camera?

skoty @ 11/15/2001 9:36:29 AM #
Out of curiosity, how does this one compare to the Sony Memory Stick camera? I know that the Sony one swivels, which was much better than the IModules, but is equal to this new one. How much did the Sony one cost? Did it have onboard memory like this one? Is it true plug and play, or is there drivers to be installed with the Sony one? If this Targus one is following the springboard standard, then it should be true plug and play, no setup of any kind required (other than plugging the thing in)? How was the resolution on the Sony camera vs. this one? Did the Sony camera take movies?

I'm very excited about this springboard. The fact that it's STARTING at $100 would indicate that eventually it's going to be around $50-$75 (after rebates) in the future. That's pretty cheap for a high end web cam, let alone a springboard.

I answered my own question. It's $150 bucks and it's only supported by they're newest handhelds (i.e. 710C 610c and T415). This is per the Sony site.
