What about windows drivers?
RE: What about windows drivers?
In exchange, Apple exclusively advertises D-Link's solution and will probably start bundling it with their desktops or laptops.
Microsoft does not have to strike deals with hardware makers to support Windows, simply because very very few hardware makers ignore Windows, if they want people to buy their hardware.

W-Link and Bluetooth Software co Widcomm are partners
Hsinchu, Taiwan - Dec 12, 2001 -- W-Link Signs Strategic Alliance Agreement With WIDCOMM
W-Link will license WIDCOMM's BTE (Bluetooth Embedded Software), BTW (Bluetooth Communications Software for Windows), and BTW-CE (Bluetooth Communications Software for Windows CE). W-Link will also manufacture the BlueGate 2500 Access Point for WIDCOMM, and will license WIDCOMM technology in order to develop and manufacture an access point product for the SOHO market. WIDCOMM and W-Link will also jointly develop and market other Bluetooth-enables and 802.11x wirelessly-enabled products.
This alliance will link WIDCOMM's Bluetooth wireless connectivity expertise with W-Link's product development and manufacturing strength. It will also allow WIDCOMM to leverage the established worldwide distribution channels of D-Link, W-Link's parent company.

Palm, Pico Comm., Red-M etc. use XTND Bluetooth Software
To put it simple: Palm's Bluetooth SDK Stack = Extended Systems Embedded Bluetooth SDK Stack ...which is also used by Sony with there Bluetooth Memory Stick.

I would still prefer an Airport/Bluetooth Combo card.
RE: I would still prefer an Airport/Bluetooth Combo card.
This is a great opportunity for early adoption. I ordered three, and they're quoting 2-4 weeks.

As for not considering a Mac as next computer, it's ok, but if you are a big UNIX guy, OS X is the Ultimate OS. Well some Linux guy will argue that Aqua is slow and stuff like that, it'll be just like Palm users vs Clie users.
RE: I would still prefer an Airport/Bluetooth Combo card.
it is a wonderful OS.
I have used the Mac a lot since the upgrade.
RE: I would still prefer an Airport/Bluetooth Combo card.
Other reasons for a combo Airport/Bluetooth card:
1) Frees up both USB ports.
2) Easy to lose $50 dongle.
3) Possible increased range by using the internal Airport antenna.
4) Aesthetically clean.
5) Combo card is probably cheaper.
6) No concerns about finicky USB (or slowing USB down).
7) Infinitesimally lighter and less power use.
8) Keeps the price higher for PC users (I know, that's devious).
RE: I would still prefer an Airport/Bluetooth Combo card.
Do you know of many devices that work with Bluetooth? In particular, I'd really like a Palm phone with this capability. I think Sony and Samsung are just a model or two away from this holy grail, but until then, I think Bluetooth is a technology in search of a solution.
I think a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse would be great, except that I already have a wireless one: The latest, greatest Logitech model (the dark blue & grey one). Only problem is, I can't use any of the special buttons or scroll wheel on the keyboard using a Mac. Logitech is finally writing drivers for OS X, though.
Now a mini, cordless Bluetooth mouse like the Mitsumi sushi mouse would be fantastic.
RE: I would still prefer an Airport/Bluetooth Combo card.
Chances of a bluetooth/airport combo card is pretty low, of course there's always chance, but it's unlikely apple will make anything Combo, it's too complicated for their definition of ease of use :P

Dang, that means I've got to buy me a new iBook. Well, then pass me a dongle.

Excellent news
However, I have trouble finding any devices like this for the PC. And even the ones that I have come across are more than $100USD and can only be purchased outside of the U.S.
Has anyone heard of any USB products like this for the PC available here in the U.S.?
