Comments on: Mergic Releases PPTP VPN Client

Mergic has released Mergic VPN 1.0, a virtual private network client that allows users with Internet access to securely connect to a private network, such as their home or corporate LAN. It is the first VPN client for the Palm platform to support the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), which is supported by more servers than any other VPN protocol. Mergic VPN is now available for $30.

VPNing

I have tested Mergic's VPN when it was still a beta and it worked pretty good at getting into the office network.(Windows NT server) I had thoughts about using it for remote administration of computer systems with software like PalmVNC and such. On Mergic's website, they now show users how to do this.

Can't wait to see what else they come up with!

I had some issues just trying to download the file from Mergic's site. It was downloading the trial copy as a document. I had tried to do a SAVE TARGET AS and it did the same thing. I finally got a version downloaded but had to go to www.palmgear.com to get it correctly. I hope they fix that problem soon.

If they don't fix it... Ensure that .exe is added to the filename when you save.

Yep ... 2 weeks and no new Sony PDA - they are slipping.

Soooo, did everyone miss the Sharp SL-A300 Linux PDA announcement?

No - the week before last HAD TONS OF PALM NEWS (what with the TechXNY expo going on). Last week was slow - probably because companies had made most of their 'near-term' announcements at the TechXNY expo the week before and because it was a short work week in the U.Ss (4th of July).

unreleased photos

No, not a PPC, that image is from the OS 5 version of their game. Those guys made some noise a week or so ago about their products being OS5 ready. Not sure if I read it here or somewhere else though...

I don't think you've been paying close attention. June was a very busy month with the release of OS 5, and the announcement of smartphones from both Samsung and Kyocera. And let's not forget the release of the Treo 90 and Sony T665C.

We covered the 3DAGames 3D game engine for Palm OS 5 in yesterday's quickies.

I will admit the last week has been pretty quiet but that is mostly because there was a major holiday here in the U.S. and both Ryan and I were on vacation. However, things are returning to normal now.
