Tiny Sheet is worth buying

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 10:01:18 AM #
it's a great software and I think it's easier to use than quick sheet and sheetToGo
conduits and syncs
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 11:07:58 AM #
What is your view of it's conduits and syncs to desktop spreadsheets, Tiny vs other spreadsheet apps for the Palm? Nothing other than cut and paste through the memo pad on the Mac end of things.

Tiny Sheet may be good, but I'm still dubious about doing business with Iambic. Their integrity is still in question in my mind, and so Quicksheet is it for me right now.

So, Sean, I'm wondering:

Do you ever eat at McDonald's, Taco Bell, Burger King, or Subway? Ever shop at retailers like Home Depot, Lowe's, Sears, JCPenney?

All of these companies have, at one time or another, had their "integrity" questioned, yet since we don't hear people rave on-and-on about it on the internet, we merrily go on doing business with them.

Let's face it, if you're going to drone on about "company integrity" when discussing iambic, you might want to consider the integrity of other companies with which you do business. And you might want to examine your own personal inegrity while you're at it. Ever cheat on your taxes? Fib on your resume? Lie to your spouse? Receive too much change and keep it?

The A/C who questioned Sean's purchasing habits..

I think you need to learn a great deal about consumer behaviour in an informed free market economy.

Consumer reaction to hostile practatice of retailers is nothing new, and is a growing consern to many companies and has been covered in The Economist who see it as a growing trend.

Even large banks like BONY and Natwest have questioned and even reversed their companies ethical policies over consumer protest (for example over things like arms deals or the funding of animal research laboratories).

Here's a rather extreme example: Would you rather buy a hamburger from a known convicted murderer or you would you instead rather buy one from an honest man selling the same goods at the same price next door?

To get back to the topic here... I use Quicksheet and it is easy and accurate with a good conduit to the PC but cannot run a file from the MMC Card.

When I started to run out of space on my M500 I purchased Tinysheet4 and put all my big spreadheets on the card -it works well!(running Tinysheet from the card also using Launch Em v3.5.1) I am still trying to get the conduit to work reliably to the card - does anyone have the solution to that?

No.1 is MiniCalc. No.2 is Quicksheet.

Tinysheet? Out of the question.

Why just games!?

kelol0 @ 8/2/2002 10:31:55 AM #
i need a discount on real apps
RE: Why just games!?
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 1:29:23 PM #
Because games are what drive most technological development. If it weren't for games, we'd all be quite happy with Pentium I or II machines, and Palm Vx's. But the gamer geeks out there want life-like stuff, since they hardly ever choose to experience REAL life, and companies give it to them.

This is what disturbs me about OS5. Do you need an ARM processor to watch video or listen to music on your Palm? No--my NR-70V proves that every day. Do you need an ARM processor to do wireless networking, etc.? No, although it's probably helpful. So what do you really need ARM processors for? "Killer" games.

Here's wishing the tech world would stop catering to the lifeless gaming crowd, but since they have lots of disposable income, it probably won't happen.

iain.collins @ 8/2/2002 3:12:25 PM #
More people buy games for there Palm OS device than any other kind of software, but if you had been paying attention you'd know that (although common sense should tell you that much, it's been posted on Palm Infocenter numerous times and even appeared as an article).

Additionally, games tend to be the hardest software to right and as a result the most expensive to develop and so buy. The reason for the discount should be obvious.

You deriding of games as not real applications shows disrespect to game developers, and evidently to the majority of other Palm users.

It is better that we should spend more money on things that give us pleasure, or on spreadsheets, calanders and word processing tools?

I guess it depends on what sort of society we wish to live in:

- one that values play and rewards those who work hard to build things that give us pleasure

- or one that value sonly work and utiliy and shows distain for things that give us pleasure

Hmmm.... if I enter "Games10" during checkout, maybe I could save $5 on that $10 game I've been wanting to buy...

>> "I guess it depends on what sort of society we wish to live in:

Unfortunately, your rose-colored view on your first option isn't reality. Our society values play, but it DOESN'T reward those who work hard to build things that give us pleasure. Why? In a word: piracy. Lots of potential "buyers" will not become such because they will instead look for a buddy who can get them a copy of the game "for free"--in other words, stolen. Same thing happens with music.

So if you want to wax eloquent about our desires for society, you'd better FACE REALITY and see that our true desire isn't merely leisure as a reward for hard work. It's leisure for nothing. We want to get rich quick without having to work for it and spend our lives endlessly playing games we didn't pay for. If we can't get rich quick, then we'll spend our lives endlessly playing games while we're SUPPOSED to be working.

Is that what YOU want? I'll gladly place more value on software that give me utility and enhances my PRODUCTIVITY (something we sorely lack in the USA). Hell, I can fulfill my desires for leisure/pleasure by roller-blading, playing golf, going to the park, etc. And you can be damn-sure I won't sit in the park playing %$^#*&% games on my Palm!

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/3/2002 11:40:03 AM #
*sigh*
Cranky guy: Don't make that blanket judgement about games. You could just as easily be out in the park, or golfing (classic stereotype of the medical doctor), or rollerblading when you should be working. Leisure for nothing my friend. People steal rollerblades, sneak into country clubs golf courses, and parks.

Oh, and also, you are both wrong and you are both right. People will pay for things if it is more convenient than breaking the law. Example: Blockbuster Video. That is a reward for hard work. I want a society that values productivity and leisure, and understands the basic human need for BOTH.

Revenge is wrong, this is true, but I shall have some fun anyway. I think I shall judge cranky guy as a cynical old conservative rich arrogant snob who thinks America is going to pot because they're not doing things EXACTLY his way. Since the responder did not attempt to judge anyone, he does not get judged.

Silverscreen and Pix

C @ 8/2/2002 11:31:31 AM #
Hey Just wanted to comment that I tried this out last night and the pix don't seem to work. I don't get it. Fireviewer has to be installed for it to work.

RE: Silverscreen and Pix
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 12:36:33 PM #
If you follow the directions listed in their Guide (at the PocketSensei.com Web site) the pix work great. I have a family photo there now and it's very cool looking in hi-res...next up the pet's pic. BTW you do need FireViewer to initially read the pix in which is actually really convenient and handles every image type.
RE: Silverscreen and Pix
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/3/2002 1:19:52 PM #
Hmmm... dunno.... I loaded Silverscreen 2.8 and Fireviewer 5.1 and I can't get the pix reader to do anything. Operator error? I even got so desperate as to follow the directions in Pocketsensei's guide and still no luck.

Altema @ 8/3/2002 10:20:50 PM #
I'm having similar problems using the pix provided... only get the PocketSensi graphic above the flames pic. Will not recognize ss1, ss2, etc. I can see the images in FireViewer 6.0f1. I'll have to give it a whirl with my own graphics.

Other than that, it seems they tightened up the code a little. The .prc file is slightly smaller and runs a little quicker despite the added feature.

Tried it with my own images and received the same result. OK, that does it, I'm gonna get drastic and read the manual!
