i gotta try it out, especially I like the good news the pics & tables remains intact after syncing (what was not the case with the older version and what kept me using picsel&wordsmith combination ..

but one feature I'm still missing => the ability export edited files to RTF format or just a plain TXT format for quickword or csv format for quicksheet..
that would be killer office suite

If there's support for landscape ..., I'll definitely upgrade my older version of QuickOffice.

Thanks, robrecht

Rob, stop asking for it! It's obviously never going to happen! These companies don't actually use this software, otherwise they'd realize how vital landscape is on a spreadsheet. ;)

So is there a PDA spreadsheet program that does support landscape mode, or a software/hardware combination that will provide it (e.g., the new Sony clamshell...UX-???). At this point I would like this feature so much that I'd even give up the Palm OS for it (i.e., PPC or Linux).

Please don't say the upcoming T3. Palm finally makes a screen with VG, then they cover up the bottom third with a slider.

You CAN export to CSV from within Quicksheet. There is a 'export' option when you click on the icon associated with a file in the file list. This lets you export (only one sheet unfortunately) to HTML or CSV. You can also e-mail or beam Quicksheet files as CSV or HTML as well.

Guess you've had a rough time with your T. I think a non sliding, non flipping, and non twisting Palm would be cool too. However, it will be longer than the T3 unless they micro-buttons or shrink the screen size. I think the T3 is a good trade off for me personally, as I get the smaller size, relatively large screen, and big usable buttons, and a speaker on the correct side of the handheld.

good to know it! I somewhat overlooked it .. but it might be that I'm much more interested in a powerful text editor then a spreadsheed .. therefore I'm still with wordsmith .. since it offers the best solution on the market right know ..
besides editing with quickword is kinda buggy ..

nick: wel if you'll improve also editing with quickword, you've got my money :-)

don't forget the Garmin iQue and tapwave zodiac. Sure it's for games but any device with 128 megs and 480x320 resolution should be great for spreadsheets!

I just downloaded the upgrade and installed it. Here's a couple of observations.

1. The new spell check engine, dictionary and thesaurus are faster but add about 400-500k. That's a pretty big hit because you have to have them in RAM.

2. No landscape view.

3. Printboy has limited support/drivers for different printers and is quite large. It also installs a bunch of files that are a pain to remove if you choose to remove the program.

Here's a few more observations after more time with it.

Bugs & Issues.

1. Opening a document from memory card creates a duplicate in RAM that must be manually deleted.

2. Scrolling on my NX70V while viewing documents causes lines of text to become illegible (similar to scroll bug in IE).

3. Can't install documents directly onto memory card/stick from desktop.

4. Duplicate QuickWord menu bar in Word

5. Trying to save an album in QuickPics causes a runtime error and kills the app.

I'm going to email iGo/CESInc about these issues and see what type of support & response I get. This may finally push me over the edge and convert me to WordSmith.

Thanks for the info. Any opinions on the new QuickSheet? Supposedly the UI has been significantly altered.

I use Quicksheet a lot (6.2), and really like the way the UI is now (with the exception of cell formatting, which I wish could be "additive" -- e.g., change the font on several cells, while leaving the background color for each the same.)

To preface: I'm a developer here at iGo/Cutting Edge:)

In response to the parent: I'm working on several of those issues at the moment. The NX70 issue has been reported this morning several times.. and I'm doing my best to track it down.

Most of these are bona-fide bugs that you are reporting.. I'm working to get them fixed just as fast as possible.

A couple of comments:

A) Landscape support is definitely something I would VERY much like to support and as we've recently added it in anticipation of the new T|3, I hope that we will offer support on Sony devices in the near future. I do have to agree that Landscape mode is extremely useful (I honestly didn't realize how useful it was until quite recently)...

B) The issue with installing documents to the card is a complicated problem. For most users (like 95%) it resolves itself once they've actually RUN the applications and hotsynced a couple of times. Do note that installing documents on the card directly does require Quickoffice Premier.

C) To get rid of the double Quickword menu, delete your and let Word regenerate it. I seriously have come to hate the Word toolbar cache:)

Quicksheet UI:

I think you'll REALLY like it. The Quicksheet UI now sports a much improved visual appearance (especially on color devices). More importantly it exposes all sorts of formatting functionality on the toolbar. This makes it easy to do exactly as you asked, you can independently modify bold, underline, fore/back colors, and alignment from the toolbar on a range of cells. You'll also find a new function picker that is hugely improved, as we now group our functions into categories and even provide descriptions of what every function in the list actually does. Navigation has also been improved, as we now support touch screen cell by cell AND page by page scrolling. Finally, we support zooming in Quicksheet now. This allows you to really navigate around incredibly quickly, as you can zoom out to get a wide view of the sheet, find the desired area and zoom in to actually read it.

I encourage you to give it a test drive, I think you'll really like it.

Thanks for the information. I haven't emailed support yet the bugs but I'll take care of the issue.

Thanks enjolras! I'm a registered QuickSheet user, and I'll upgrade as soon as landscape mode is implemented. :)

Nick, will the new trial show up as expired if we have tried a former version? I've had this problem before...

I just emailed support (after hours)regarding the issues. I hope there are quick fixes.

Landscape mode

mblazecka @ 8/20/2003 7:01:43 PM #
Actually, QuickSheet as far back as Version 3, I believe supported landscape mode on the HandEra. It works great, and I don't know why they haven't implemented on other machines, maybe the have for the Clie, and hopefully they will on the T3 which promises to have the same VG as the HandEra - it will be my new machine if it does!

Support Issues

enjolras @ 8/21/2003 2:07:27 PM #
I just wanted to let everyone know that we are having some BIG problems at our support center right now. Basically, the various worms that are attacking Microsoft users everywhere are causing our support address to be inundated with worm-generated e-mail at the rate that one of our support guys describes as (unbeleivable).

We are attempting to pick through the generated e-mails right now and will continue to answer support requests as fast we can. There is a possibility, however, that legitimate support requests will be lost as we weed out these other e-mails.

If you haven't heard from us in a day or two, please resubmit your request, hopefully this barrage of e-mails will be over soon.
