Comments on: HP Buys Into Linux Boosting Technologies

Phoenix Technologies Ltd. has announced a deal with HP to sell a number of its various Linux and desktop related technologies. The transaction will net HP a collection of software assets that help power and optimize Linux based systems.

HP will pay $12 million in cash for Phoenix's assets related to Phoenix's HyperSpace, HyperCore and Phoenix Flip instant-on and client virtualization products. LinuxForDevices provides some additional background on the related technologies and also speculates on the possibility that the technology could potentially be used in some form with webOS.

Was it Palm or Palmsource that had some licensing thing going with Wind River at one time?

This purchase might be for webOS for Desktops.

Not necessarily desktops... it could be for any tablets/net-books too.... They did mention that Hyperspace has an ARM version too.

I really really really hope HP is looking at all the Android craplets coming out and learning what NOT to do. Bootup (cold start) of over a minute is pathetic. And response time for page swipes on something like the Pandigital Novel is just unacceptable. People want real-world responsiveness.

This is all fine and good, but what I really need to know is how this will effect my HP printer?
