Comments on: Palm Shares Drop 30% Friday

Palm HQ Shares in Palm Inc. took a hard hit following last Thursday's Earnings announcement. The subsequent investor conference call did little to settle wary investors either as shares of Palm Inc hit a new 52 week low. Shares of PALM closed at $4.0045 on Friday, down over a point and a half, more than 30% single day decline.

The sell off was also fueled by some new analyst predictions and pessimistic financial reports. Peter Misek of Canaccord Adams, dropped his price target on the stock to zero. Quoted at MarketWatch he reports...

"We believe Palm's troubles will only accelerate as carriers and suppliers increasingly question the company's solvency and withdraw their support, […] With what appears to be roughly 12 months of cash on hand, an accelerating burn rate, a complete lack of earnings visibility, and substantial debt and preferred equity, we no longer see any value in the company's common equity."

Yeah, kinda silly and the equvalent of a DoS since it scrolls off the Subject lines in PiC's "Latest Comments" listing:

http://www.palminfocenter.com/comments/

A =single= post of this URL:

should suffice forever.

What do you think of building the Palm Classic that interacts with a we-com virtual wallet? It would require a reunion of the best of Palm past, present and future.

Any thoughts?

What would a Palm Classic be to you? Would it have past, present and future features? Would it be made from metal? Would it interact with other devices such as a we-com virtual wallet? Would it have fingerprint recognition for that content which is in need/want of such security?

Please share your thoughts too.

The Worst Investor In America!
jca666us @ 3/26/2010 3:42:50 PM # M
Bono!

The U2 singer's investment into a company called Elevation Partners has earned him the titled of the "worst investor in America," according to the online publication 24/7 Wall Street.

The private American equity firm has failed disastrously in many of its efforts, including attempting to regain mobile phone market shares from Apple, RIM and other smartphone makers. Their stock has plummeted since last September and has been given the label of "arguably the worst run institutional fund of any size in the United States."

RE: Stock
e_tellurian @ 3/26/2010 7:21:24 PM #
Why blame the investor? Bono could invest anywhere in the world and he chose America and Palm.

There are people that love Palm and would like to purchase a Palm however Palm is not available in their market. That is not Bono's fault.

Have suggested that people that love Palm try going through the webmaster to see if they can help ... a kind of cupid.

ET;

Please case with the Palm stock price postings. We all know it's on or around the $4 level, give or take a few cents. Besides, everyone knows where to go to check the stock price for themselves. Also, Ryan is looking to integrating that functionality to the front page of the site.

Thank you.

To assume "we all know" may not be accurate. Some do not know where Palms stock is or do not know what the magic number is to offer more choices such as a Palm Classic. Some are trying to find out and hope those with some answers will also share their thoughts too. The more friends the better.

We have an open form here. People that support Palm are as free to share thoughts as those that support others.

It seems to make sense to support Palm as many people count on Palm's success for their livelihood. This is a Palm forum or so the name would imply.

Encouraging innovation and the the stock will help those that depend on Palm for something to do.

Its great that Ryan will add more Palm content to the site. Am sure this will help after all it is a Palminfocenter. Adding stock content may attract more people interested in Palm's stock too.

Dear wall street,

From out West. Palm is worth more than you're selling them for.

Palm is a premium brand that has a proven track record of innovative solutions. The people that make up Palm have invested their future in Palm and many of the developers in the handheld market have their roots in Palm.

i understand that some have given up on Palm and that is reflecting in the stock. However think of all the people that have not given up on Palm and want Palm products to continue to offer innovative solutions into the future. How can they be heard when all we see around us is negative financial news. There must be some good news out there. There must be companies out there that have not given up and choose to rally to show the world that to compete with a brand requires tremendous innovation and thought. Palm is such a brand.

Palm has consistently raised the bar and will continue to do that as long as people understand that the true value of Palm. The millions of people around the world that have invest their time knowledge and capital to building a true North America brand that will continue to raise the bar to encourage further innovation.

Palm won't quite on you please do not quite on Palm. North America is not a land of quites.

Sincerely,

E-T

Hey ET & fellow Palm Stock watchers.

The long awaited PIC PALM stock ticker is now in place on the homepage.

Let me know what you think as always.

RE: Stock
SeldomVisitor @ 3/31/2010 4:45:57 AM #
It looks fine, however, its presence (very) slightly saddens me - I've always tried to use PiC as a techie source with only minor forays into discussing finances, usually in reply to some other comment/article - the ticker (very) slightly changes the site orientation from my POV.

BTW, the "market cap", while possibly formulaically (?) correct, does not reflect the effect of the Preferred shares - those shares, converted to common, bring the share count up to 240,000,000-ish, bringing that "market capitialization" value up to 900-ish million. Note, too, that the Preferred shares are "preferred" and very special - they get THEIR money before any common shares do thus changing how the whole buyout bucks scenario works.

Oopsie- the stock ticker broke and broke the rest of that side of the home page.

The market cap is tallied by the stock ticker provider (yahoo finance). Quotes may be delayed by ~20-30 minutes, so its just a rough estimate.

The service is in beta for the moment, so there may be some errors today while I work out the rough edges.

Relax some people are OK with posting the price from time to time especially when the stock goes up. Ignorer that which does not concern you. Rather than get on my case, or complaining to Ryan, why not think about how a Palm Classic could offer more choices. Though if it makes you happy to reprimand that should be your choice. While reprimanding why not offer some solutions too?

Happy is good.

ET, there is no solution. Palm, as we knew it, doesn't exist any more and your little voice in the darkness isn't going to change that. They screwed the pooch.
A Palm Classic, even made of Titanium, would go in the same landfill that the Pixies and Pre are headed for.

Others have done well. This is a testament to the innovative minds at work creating great content and products.

i think Palm still has a future. As a pioneer Palm has often raised the bar encouraging others to do the same. A Palm Classic made of Titanium would be a great addition to the market place.

You do good work Palm will always to in your roots. Some want to support the roots like water to encourage the growth of the whole tree.

That is not to say others are not doing well as clearly they are that is also a testament to great innovative minds offering great products.

i think Palm can rally they are a good company with great minds too. Their roots are solid and can easily grow more if the will is there to create more offerings thinking of the past, present and future. Such thinking will assure no one is left behind.

Titanium would be a great metal to use and the volume would bring the cost down. These units would have a market perhaps at the higher end of the spectrum. If one could remove the hard drive and screen then people happy with a Titanium Palm Classic could upgrade without too much disruption to their flow. WebOS would offer mobile server service, while including all the best from Palm past, present and future.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Well while some focus on other choices thought it made sense, since we are at a Palminfocenter forum that we think about how Palm could build a Palm Classic. What will it take? Money? More input? What do you think it will take to build a Palm Classic?

Palminfocenter is now on the pulse of Palm (stock data). It would be interesting to see if the thoughts on the next generation of Palm can enhance the heart rate.

Thoughts matter we also need some folks from Palm to throw in their thoughts too. The better our thoughts and delivery the more likely the rate of Palms pulse will increase.

Some think the pulse is too low, 3.90 over something and could eventually compromise the heart. We need to find a way to bring up the heart rate. Some thoughts would be to show what a future Palm would look like.

Some have suggested a Titanium body with webOS, SD card, fingerprint recognition, water proof, and other features such as a removable hard drive (upgradeable hard drive) and upgradeable screen. Palm Classic could also use all the historic applications or legacy applications for the Drs. that still want such choices.

What are your thoughts?

To have excitement the stock must go up like a heart beat filled with adrenalin.

What is the right heart rate for Palm to stay healthy? 3.85 seems too low.

The high was around 18.00 will this rate or higher help build a Palm Classic? What is the ideal rate needed to build an best of Palm past, present and future interactive Palm Classic?

Please share your thoughts too.

Good to see the stock has gone in a positive direction. Let's keep going. It would be good to know at what rate the stock must grow to build a Palm Classic.

Good to see the heart rate is stronger today then yesterday. Good money has been invested in Palm the folks that invest in Palm believe in Palm. Let's not let them down.

Look forward to interacting with a Palm Classic.

Well it seems if Palm wants to be bought out the stock will go down. If Palm wants to build more the stock will go up. What to choose to lose ones freedom independence, legacy and give up and be bought out? At least sell it to people that understand North America and its never quite attitude with a pioneer spirit and an understanding that democracy build the Palm.

In North America we do what we agree to do, not what we are told to do.

It seemed that the stock was appreciating the takeover news is not a sustainable change to the company. Though if it makes the stock more expensive perhaps Palm will not get bought out and can maintain its independence.

If the stock goes up on takeover news would that indicate that this is not a desirable direction or a desirable direction?

Any thoughts?
