Totally Too Late

trophyofgrace @ 4/12/2004 11:27:45 AM #
This is really too late if you ask me, OS5 users have been spoiled by NES, Atari, Apple //, and others, why would anyone go back to the Gameboy that we played with our IIIc's and m100's, now that we have better consoles available?

(1st post, btw)

-->Visor Deluxe-->Palm m125-->Palm m505-->Ipaq 1945-->Tungsten E-->??

It's not the system... it's the games that are available on the systems. =) That's why to date I would never consider the XBox.

Reason 1: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

Reason 2: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

I'll pay the 20 dollars just to be able to play those games on my Palm.

Like the previous poster said, it's a matter of games, not the specs of the original system. NES games were written 10-15 years ago, and the game design shows its age. GBC games are only a few years old, and even if though the specs of the GBC were less than ideal, a lot of companies managed to make some extremetely fun games on the platform.

The guy is polishing his coding skills. Maybe afterwards he gets to another system, who knows.

I dunno, man. If you had an Xbox, you could get any game that was multi-platform ported, guaranteed. :P

GameBoy Advance. I have MorphGear for PocketPC and it works awesome on most GameBoy Advance games. Newer PalmOS machines have the same power as PocketPCs so I don't see a reason why GameBoy Advance emulation can't be done.

polishing up? :) mike was involved with atari retro - which, also uses SHARK. its just a natural progression to actually go ahead and do an update to Liberty. :)

BTW, Mike/Maven is much too humble to bring this to anyone's attention but at the recently held Palm Developer's Conference 2003, he was selected as a "Palm OS Expert Guide".

No one need worry about the speed of the Native ARM "Liberty". I'm sure we'll have no trouble getting it to run at fullspeed. Atari Retro runs at 60 FPS for the emulator core (while screen updates are at 20 FPS).

P.S. We are also almost finished with yet another SHARK product - MomentumGame's Pocket Mini Golf.

Haha, Chip, even I'm a PalmSource Software Expert. You don't have to be an expert coder. All you really had to do was fill out an application, get accepted because you have a unique ability or insight, do the painstakingly long guide, and update it ever quarter. It's not really a prestigious honor, just a guide. ;)

My point is that you don't refine your skillset on an application like Liberty. Four years ago when Liberty was first release, people couldn't believe that a GB EMU could run about a lowly 16MHZ 68K grayscale Palm.

Bosco, this isn't some privledge that they give to anyone (like the Handango Game of the Year award *g*). You should be proud. Good luck in your programming.

How about SNES emulator?

Konstantin @ 4/12/2004 4:46:50 PM #
Doe anyone thinking about coding a snes emulator on native ARM?

Gotta finish that Chrono Trigger. The best SNES RPG ever IMHO.

Our friend Yoyo of OpenSnes9x fame (on GP32 devices) has a Zodiac version of SNES9x (already available for those registere din the Zodiac dev programme); once he makes it a public version, I'll likely port it to Palm OS proper, so we shoudl have an Snes9x for Palm OS in a little while.

Wow,

That is good news...what is the link to his site please? I love snes9x great emulator with great filters hopefully they make the graphic filters work for palm os. Hopefully it will work with my zire 71.

I do agree with the previous posters regarding the lateness of the Liberty arm native version. How long has os 5 been out? Gambit Studios has no excuse for the delay. They may be worried about pirate proofing their software as they have tried to in the past. I bet aaron ardiri is involved.

Cheers :-P

Used to be visoredgeman then visorprismman, now zire71man!

...or maybe they were just really busy with other projects for clients?

Only so much programming can be done in a single day :)

(But I guess it's easy to critisize, isn't it?)

of course i am involved.

in regards to the delay with any product development at Gambit Studios - the reality is that "paid" contract work always gets priority over the fun/hobby projects. mike has been quite busy over the last few years with mobilewizardry and associated development projects (in addition to mikes own projects) which basically meant that Liberty didn't have the highest prority.

we also wanted to wait for the maturing of SHARK before we started Liberty. we proved the concept with Atari Retro - covering all the basics and getting the code verified and certified. porting Liberty is just a simple task now - GameBoy and GameBoy Color are just the beginning.. GameBoy Advance is also being planned - but, we have to prioritize our development now.

On the other hand, yoyo's emulator has overnight grown GB/GBC support for Zodiac developers, it's quite impressive despite being a pre-release version!
