Updater Differences

Bartman007 @ 5/21/2004 8:03:30 PM #
Why does the Mac version require 12 megs free on the device while the Windows version only requires 6 megs? That makes no sense what-so-ever...

Talk about making no sense, someone explain to me why they would get a Cingular Treo and pay $80/month for unlimited data? T-Mo has unlimited T-Zones for $4.99/month, Sprint is $15/month for unlimited vision.

The ATT Treo 600 update was posted. Many subtle changes in the OS and in the audio. Next week driving around Los Angeles will be the real test

Eating memory?

Leech @ 5/24/2004 1:26:13 PM #

Are these updates installer packages that do their thing and then no longer occupy as much memory, or does each update occupy user memory?

If so, doesn't that just really suck? They can't get it right so the user suffers later on with updates that eat memory. Granted the newer units have a lot more memory than the old days, but still.

The updater needs 6 megs (Windows) to do its thing, but this memory is released after the update is finished. So it does not have any impact on the available user memory. I have done the upgrade and it works really well...
