More likely EOL for the T600.

AdamaDBrown @ 4/11/2005 3:25:22 PM # Q
PalmOne is probably trying to reduce that vast backlog of Treos that they mentioned a few months back, so that they can EOL the T600 without getting screwed with their pants on.

On a similar note, Verizon is blowing out Treo 600s at $199 with contract to make room for the T650s that are coming, probably later this month.

Tidbit: I saw a photo of Verizon's ad placard for the Treo 650, and it lists a 1 megapixel camera, Internet Explorer, and dual LCDs, all incorrect.

Big deal. I know of a bigger one...

The Zodiac 1 which has Bluetooth, dual SD slots, 3d engine and 8Mb Video RAM is currently selling in PC world for some £50.00 ($100). It's hard to see how the Zire 31 can compete with that. The E2, on the other hand, will be a different matter...

Yes, but the Zod1 is not in stock at PC World or available for under $200 in the US.

£50! Which PCWorld is that!? At that price I will definitely go over to the dark side and buy one for my daughter. I always liked the form factor and custom UI.

My preferred media player/gamer pda.

That backlog many months ago you are referring to was for the Treo 300! I haven't read anywhere of such backlogs for the Treo 600 though...

They haven't been making Treo 300s for a very long time, and the backlog was talked about was just last December. It was for the 600s.

Again, I doubt palmone has ever stated that it has had the same excess inventory problems with the Treo 600 that it had with the 300. Where is the link?

Treo 600 inventory glut

Pay attention to Palm's conference calls. Or do a search at Treocentral. SeldomVisitor kept harping on this inventory glut for weeks before he was banned by the dumba$$ moderators there.

Gfunk, look at the news articles from the December conference call. PalmOne themselves stated, in the conference call, that they had a supply glut of several months worth of Treos. It was later clarified to be five months worth.

Which palm does this predict?

Does palm's selection of the Zire 31 and Treo 600 price reduction hint at which palm device will be released next?

No, I think that these two will become the oldest models in p1's next lineup. Older models than these two will probably get discontinued.

Don't forget the Zire 72. It launched same time as the Zire 31 and should have approximately the same lifespan. I expect both of those to stick around until at least this fall if not spring '06 (Zire 31 especially). While P1 wants to transition the line to NVFS & the Athena connector, they don't have the resources to refresh the entire line at once. Most immediately pressing are to get rid of the final remnants of the old round Palm Inc. logo & branding.

Also, P1 still lack a proper low-end Treo so expect the Treo 600 stick around while being cut down in price to move the existing units out of the channel. I'd assume they have enough inventory built up to last them for months, especially with the 650 being rolled out on more carriers and sating most of the Treo 600 demand.

A proper low-end Treo and a new upper-mid range Zire or Tungsten (emphasis on multimedia w/o a HD) need to be P1's main goals for the remainder of this year.

I have spotted an ad for the TE2 in engadget.com (if you reload the page several times, sometimes appears the TE2 ad.) The price tag is $249. It looks like TE2 will be first to be released, perhaps tomorrow...
