Congraduations! I wonder how the shape of the keys affect speed. Love to see how this guy would do on a RIM keyboard compaired to a Treo keyboard.

If the Treo 650 had it's official UK launch today...

ChiA @ 4/27/2005 9:22:41 PM # Q
... then somebody had better tell PalmOne UK; there's still no mention of the Treo 650 on the UK website whatsoever, never mind when it's going to be available!

Something's gotta be wrong with this story.

I just entered the same thing the dude did, with Graffiti in 1:51

I was under the impression that fast Treo thumbers were supposed to kick the butt of Graffiti writers.

In fact I could have sworn that a competition organized by the Fitaly people (or one of those) had a Treo guy kickazz with like 80WPM or something.

I realize that this Guinness dude only used one finger... but if it's possible for a relatively normal dude to get 80WPM with two thumbs, I would hope that the WORLD'S FASTEST DUDE should be at least able to beat my 30WPM Graffiti speed with one thumb.

suspicious :-P

...even MORE suspicious!

I just tried to enter the same message using the keyboard on my Zire71 (I mean the silly keyboard that pops up when you tap in the lower left corner of the graffiti)... WITH the having to switch from alpha to numeric whenever needed, I still managed to enter the message in 2:41 .... lagging the World Record holder by about 19 seconds on my first try?

bleh!

Try typing up that message on your cell phone with one hand, or on any smartphone keyboard with one hand. It ain't easy, I can tell u that. :P

Try doing that Graffiti test using only one thumb and let us know how fast you were. ;-)

nice story but Bell DID NOT INVENTED THE PHONE

maybepalm @ 4/28/2005 1:08:28 PM # Q
I found it OUTRAGEOUS that in 2005 somebody can still write sentences like "Bell invented the telephone"

The telephone was invented by Antonio Meucci (Italy) in Florence 1834 - it was then STOLE in 1876 by Mr.Bell and his rich friends.
Meucci developed the telephone in 40 years, and registered the final invention in 1871. Working prototypes were given by Meucci to the Western Union, who said it was "not interested" after two years and never returned them back to the inventor.
Meucci's patent of 1871 was "lost" by a corrupted Patent Office official.

In June 11, 2002 the US Congress with resolution N. 269 finally declared Meucci as the sole inventor of the telephone.

This is HYSTORY

Sorry guys, but this was a much needed correction.

Not very fast

mccarty @ 4/29/2005 12:00:52 PM # Q
I just typed that message on my laptop in 43 seconds. That's 70% (!) faster than Mr. Harkki's right thumb. Is that the cost of mobility? No thanks.

(Also, the message included words that you would never use in a short email sent from your cell phone. "First intelligible call" instead of just "first call"? "Massachusetts" instead of "MA"? Please, if you're going to come up with a test for something like this at least make it relavent.

So Mr. Harkki might be the World speed champion at texting on cell phones and Treos, but he's just really fast at being slow.

Arttu Harkki's sms record was rather slow

DK99 @ 4/30/2005 1:28:40 AM # Q
it appears that Arttu Harkki's previous sms record was rather slow too.
I did a google on him and found some info on him.

He once broke the fastest SMS record, at 2 min 58 sec in finland 2001. And that is rather slow. I could do it under 2mins.

His record was then broken by someone called James Trusler, at 67sec in 2002.

THEN, that record was broken again by a singaporean lady. The record is currently unbroken.... at 44sec.
(pls correct me if any of the figures are wrong. thx )
