Comments on: Ignore Call Via SMS Comes to the Treo 650

SharkMsg is a new app that brings an innovative new feature from the Windows Mobile Treo to the Palm Treo 650 that Palm and Microsoft said couldn't be done on the Palm OS. SharkMsg prompts you to send an SMS to the caller when you ignore an incoming phone call allowing you to decline a call with a friendly text message.

The feature is there.

The feature is there (ROM 1.43). You can send a SMS when a call is missed or ignored.

Do you have a link with more details? I had heard that the treo 1.43 rom had been leaked but I haven't come across a report with any of the new features.

I am not sure if it is the feature you are talking about.

1. when a call comes in, "accept" or "ignore" pops up.
2. click the "ignore"
3. The next window is "you missed a call" with three option "call back" "cancel" and "send SMS"

Maybe not as convient as SharkMSG, but it is there.

Sorry, it is only for missed call. SharkMsg is still unique and creative.

If wince was good, why does m$ have to lie about Palm OS? :)

> "...Microsoft Senior VP Pieter Knook remarked, 'A feature that Palm had been unable to implement with Palm OS...'"

While you may think this is simply unintelligable m$ marketing FUD garbage, in fact it actially is intelligable. Babelfish has recently been upgraded to be able to translate this stuff into English. Just choose "m$ marketing FUD garbage" as the translation language in the pull-down menu. It comes out like this:

"m$ marketing suit Pieter Knook lied in public, pretending that there actually existed 'some feature in the wince-Treo that Palm had been unable to implement with the Palm OS', even though he was already in full knowledge that Palm had this feature prepared in the latest Palm OS Treo ROM".

Those m$ guys. What can you say? If their product was any good, they wouldn't have to lie, right? :)

Surely :) a :) better : question :) would :) be :) why :) Palm :) chose :) to :) lie :) about :) the :) capabilities :) of :) the :) OS :) they :) have :) always :) used :)? Are :) they :) trying :) to :) badtalk :) POS :) so :) they :) can :) justify :) abandoning :) it :) ?

Surur :)

If lying is the only way to make a profit, then when you are already making a profit maybe the idea is to lie to make an even greater profit? A day will come when all that dust shall settle.

"...a feature that Palm had been unable to implement with Palm OS..."

Note that he said Palm couldn't implement it, but Ludus could.

Surur, I like your posting style for two reasons:

(1) Smiley faces are nice, and it's always pleasant to see them. :)

(2) By filling your post with punctuation, you make your dross harder to read and easier to ignore, thus avoiding the unpleasant sense of "he really can't possibly think anyone cares" cognitive-dissonance commonly associated with your posts. :)

OT: $99 Treo 650 from Earthlink?

cervezas @ 10/17/2005 7:15:45 PM # Q
Just noticed the ad a the top of this page for a $99 Treo 650. Even with probably the usual two-year activation that's a pretty sweet deal.

Only problem is they seem to have a little trouble with their arithmetic:

No, their math is fine.

List price is $599, they slashed it to $199. $199-$100MIR=$99.

It's a nice deal. Too bad Earthlink's phone is CDMA.

Maybe I'll need to reevaluate my opinion of Palm using WinceMob - apparently it can spark a bunch of "Palm can't do this..." "oh yes it can (if it has any free RAM)"....

If it weren't for SONY innovating gawd knows how lousy the Palm Palms would be at this point.
