Comments on: Laridian MyBible 4 for Palm OS Review

Henry Kong, a minister with the Church of Christ in Singapore, brings us this review of Laridian's MyBible 4 for Palm OS. MyBible gives users fast and easy access to the entire Bible with features that let them search, take notes, highlight, and bookmark the Bible text. If you are still using a paper text, you might not want to any longer after reading Henry's review.

Thanks for the review!

It should be noted, and I don't think it was, that MyBible 4 is an OS5 app. So I'm stuck with version 3 until I upgrade my m515.

Nice review. MyBible gets a ton of looks from folks looking for a solid Bible reader with some great features. I admit, it could use some cleaning up with the interface design, but for most uses, its good enough to get the job done. Koolbeans.

I had never really looked at other bible apps before as Bible+ has always met my needs. However, I do like the look of some of the neat GUI features in MyBible 4. I will have to try.

Good program, but still lacks more serious tools.

My wife wanted a Palm Bible program for Christmas last year. I suggested Laridian, but her list of "tools" include too much that Laridian doesn't yet have for their MyBible program. I know she's not the only one who wants Greek, Hebrew and Strong's numbers. They have the "NASB with Strong's Numbers and Greek/Hebrew Dictionaries" (NASEC) for PocketBible, so why not for MyBible? I'm hoping they will seriously consider adding it for the serious student.

Otherwise, yes, MyBible is very nice. And the "bundles" are definitely the way to go.

It might not be the "mythical color HandEra", but I'm liking my TX anyway.

I love Laridian stuff but I noticed that they have more offerings in Pocket PC. I do not understand why they would not have the same offerings for the Palm community. My first Laridian softwares were for Pocket PC but when I tried their Palm version, I switched to their Palm version because the user interface in Palm is simpler and direct, easier to use. Going to the chapter and verse of the Bible is faster than using the Pocket PC version. It was Laridian that made me switched to Palm.

Three cheers for MyBible

I've been using MyBible since it was freeware ("Scripture") and I'm a big fan of it for these reasons:

1. Small footprint--it's amazing how small the files are for such a large document (this was a very important issue a few years back as a Palm Vx user--not so important today)

2. Bible choices--MyBible offers modern versions: NIV, ESV, RSV and the Message, among others. While some of those free Bible programs are great, offering only the King James Version and revisions or paraphrases of the same is not very usefull

3. Interface--MyBible is quick and easy to use

I do wish it had more features, but now that I'm using the Treo 650 as my main PDA, I find I really don't have space for more features. I've purchased dictionaries and commentaries, but I don't have the real estate to use them. I suppose it is different for TX users.

Over the yeasrs, I've used BibleThumper, Bible+ and a few others, but MyBible has always been my main program, namely for having a great selection of modern translations.

I bought the "NIV Study Bible" package that has the previous version of MyBible, plus the NIV and the NIV Study Bible notes.

Very nice. I've completely stopped carrying my paper bible around.

The availability of the NIV translation was what got me to buy, but now that I have MyBible, I find that its navigation features are also superior.
