Comments on: Bejeweled 2 for Palm OS Updated

I just updated GTS Racing and Hellfire (two Astraware action titles) last night and they had some minor but appreciated speed/stability optimizations for NVFS. It's encouraging to see a developer still supporting their legacy (but still fun!) titles for newer devices. Astraware might not have the $ to sink into old titles and give our free 320*480 updates but they at least keep the old stuff running on the latest hardware through incremental updates. I registered Zap! back in 2000 and STILL have it on my TX (though it never really gets played due to the utter lack of new levels/add-on packs). They added digitized sounds and d-pad support over the years but kept the 16-bit color graphics at 160*160 (fine with me).

If Kenny West is reading this then I just wanted to say that Howard & the gang at Astraware have kept up a superb effort for years! Astraware & Splashdata set the paradigm that all mobile software developers should strive to achieve.

The only time I've ever gotten "burned" on an Astraware purchase was with one of those crummy pre-loaded MMC titles (hey I was bored and stuck at the airport). I quickly learned that the publisher, not the developer, handles all support for those MMC titles...which is to say, they don't support 'em at all past whatever state they were in when they burned the ROM image onto the card.

Umm, I think someone's a little late on this story. Bejeweled2 v1.2 has been out for almost a year now. My version shows a date of March 22, 2005 and Astraware's Bejeweled2 page shows a date of Apr 1 2005.

I like this game, I don't have much against it, and while Astraware isn't quite making false advertisements by saying this game is hi-res+, it's VERY close to the border

This It's really just hi-res (320x320). When the DIA is hidden the square 320x320 screen is centered and the extra 80 lines of pixels going up and down or left and right are just used to display the background in its landscape or portrait mode entirety. While that looks better, I don't really count that since it has no direct bearing on gameplay.

Of course I don't expect AW to change that. For a game like Bej2 played on a set 8x8 grid. Not much to use use the extra screen real estate, and modifying the grid size would change the mecahnics of the gameplay.
