RE: I wonder...
would be nice, but the quote in that article is from last august: http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/7999/hawkins-palm-has-secret-third-business/ RE: I wonder...
... don't these guys release that they are doomed. They should declare bankruptcy and get it over with.

I just wanna know... which weird treo did they piece together?
What dou you think about Palm, especially PalmOs Future? I live in the Czech Republic and the power of Palm is weaker and weaker. New Palm products with palm os are very unstable with czech localitaziton and I see a big migration to WM machines. Do you see the same in US, or is there a still power among palm os users and palm with palm os has not said the last word? Thanks RE: Future of PalmEricsProjects @ 3/31/2006 3:14:29 PM #
It's about the same in the US. They've made some seriously bad business moves...

I was looking at a video iPod, 60 gigabytes over the weekend. Apple sells a 4 gigabyte flash-memory based Nano. That got me thinking. Why does my Treo have a bare 32 megabytes? Ten years ago, the dream PDA was just that. Now, where the hell is it? Is it truly impossible to create a PDA with the following: 1. Massive storage capacity As I was looking at the very compact video iPod, all I could think is, why can't anyone make a PDA that does it all? I've been an avid Palm user since 1999 (Palm V and Vx--a truly beautiful PDA), but apart from the Treo, I have not purchased a PDA since the T3. I thought about the T5, LifeDrive and TX, but none of those would be a step up from the T3. I figure Palm could have gotten me for one or two more PDAs (yes, I'd carry the Treo and a second Palm--unless they produced a smartphone with a large screen). Again, ten years ago, this would be just a dream. Today, it should be a reality. Er... happy anniversary palm. RE: Palm needs a radical new direction
The HTC Muse will everything on your list except GPS. The Loox T830 will have everything on your list except massive storage. HTC muse Specs: Windows Mobile 5.0 (for Pocket PC) http://us.gizmodo.com/gadgets/cellphones/htc-muse-is-coming-134776.php Loox T830 specs: Intel PXA270 416 MHz processor Looking at Palm for technical innovation and pushing the envelope is a waste of time. Surur RE: Palm needs a radical new direction
Looking at Palm for technical innovation and pushing the envelope is a waste of time. ... as is waiting for US carriers to sell devices like the HTC Muse and Loox T830. On this side of the pond it seems like when you push the envelope the envelope just pushes right back.
RE: Palm needs a radical new direction
I dont think thats still completely true. The T-mobile SDA made it over with WIFI intact. The smallest qwerty smartphone, the Moto Q, is coming to Verizon first. The axis of innovation seems to be shifting some. Surur RE: Palm needs a radical new direction
No, the carriers will always find a way to cripple their phones/handsets.
Want a SD (mini, micro, whatever) slot? Fine but it's crippled with an impossibly maddening DRM scheme/check-in & check-out process ala Sony's ATRAC. Want a high megapixel camera? Fine but it won't let you pull images off of the SD card. You have to use the "PixPlace" or whatever service offered your carrier to send images at 25 cents a pop. Want Bluetooth? Sure, but it's gimped beyond belief on everything to be anything more than a glorified (and still underwhelming) headset protocol. OBEX, DUN, A2DP are all MIA or neutered left & right on *THIS* side of the pond. Want POS? Fine but you'll have to switch carriers to get it or use the ancient old Treo 650. Verizon doesn't like POS and Sprint still has yet to officially confirm the availability of the 700p. What if a final POS Treo is released and no carriers pick it up? Didn't a similar situation just happen with a BenQ's PPC smartphone? T-Mobile's not even available within 300 miles of where I am sitting currently. The Moto Q will likely be handicapped by some Verizon-imposed shackle. Moving their smartphones to the same miserable universal UI used by their cell phones is likely Verizon's next step. In the USA the Verizon/Sprint/Cingular envelope doesn't "push" back as much as it actually bites you and gives you two hands full of paper cuts.
Jeez, seems like it's been longer. Still, I wouldn't change the past 10 years for anything. :) RE: Just 10 years?
Agreed. I'm a dedicated Treo user... but I do think I could do more with more. That's what I want.
It is remarkable how changed their devices are, though. As much as I loved the Palm Vx, wow, it sure is an inferior machine today.
Should we be saying happy birthday to Palm or to PalmSource/Access? Shouldn't the owner of the Palm _OS_ be the birthday boy? http://Tapland.com - Tapwave Zodiac News, Reviews, & Discussion - RE: Happy b-day Palm or PalmSource/Access?
No. Palm originally owned the PalmOS. Then they split to Palm SG (Palm Solutions Group, I remember them, that was about the time I got in) and PalmSource (the OS guys). Then Palm SG acquired Handspring and formed palmOne, and then you probably know the story. So initialy it was Palm Computing, Inc. (back when the IIIc was released, and shortly after became Palm, Inc., I believe) that created the Pilot 1000 Organizer, so Happy Birthday to them (Palm, Inc. that is). RE: Happy b-day Palm or PalmSource/Access?
Yeah, I know the whole history. My point was simply that everyone's making a big to-do about "Palm's" birthday, but what made Palm successful was the Palm OS combined with the original Pilot formfactor. Today, Palm is touting a me-too WM Treo as their "latest and greatest" just as they hit their 10th birthday. Sad.
