Comments on: First Genuine Verizon Treo 755p Photos?

Verizon Treo 755pEngadget Mobile has posted what appears to be a legitimate spy shot of a Verizon-branded Treo 755p. Submitted by an anonymous poster, the picture does not reveal anything new in the Verizon version of the phone, despite earlier reports claiming that Verizon was possibly trying to include EVDO Rev. A on its version of the handset to coincide with the completion of its national network upgrade.

Appearance-wise, the phone appears identical to its Sprint sibling in all aspects thanks to a variety of spy shots showing the phone from every conceivable angle. The phone’s actual release date is still uncertain but earlier reports have indicated this latest CDMA Treo launching on the Verizon networking anywhere from July to September.

News on the 755 Verizon Release... maybe

JRAD @ 7/19/2007 12:16:25 PM # Q
Hi all,

I just saw this on another post. I hope it is accurate that we are getting close. Don't mind all the trolls ripping the phone or the service.

Keep your fingers crossed that we are getting close. I just hope that this is not one of the original "test" models that bombed and has little to no meaning for us getting closer to a release date.

It's a near certainty. The 755 has a lot of the foundational issues of the 700 cured apparently. I'm sure VZW is more than ready to get rid of that 700p dog and pony show.

Grafitti on Treo 755p

fredrab @ 7/20/2007 8:22:29 AM # Q
Is there a way to use graffiti to enter data on the Treo 755p?

Can I transfer ALL of the data, programs and games from my T/X to the Treo? How do I accomplish that?

Thanks.

Hotsync and beaming is your friend.

For Graffiti (not sure why you want to use it on a treo?) try this:

Thanks.

As to Graffiti, I have used it since the first Palm Pilot came out and have relied on many shortcuts to make many calendar entries daily. I am assuming it is a quicker method than typing on the mini keyboard. Am I wrong?

I used to have Graffiti Anywhere on my Treo. After a few months I took it off because I got used to the keyboard.

fedrab,

2 Warnings! #1 Moving form a T|X to Treo is not as simply as hotsyncing + beaming. #2 Like most of us, you probably cannot imagine parting with Graffiti. The Treo will most likely do it for you tho.

Transferring to Treo:
See the many threads available. You probably find a T|X user that did it successfully. Make sure that you do a complete PC backup and also backup your PC directories to the desktop etc before transferring. All your apps will not cross the bridge, but most will and others will need updates. It's a good idea to check Palm.com for an exact recommendation too. Stability of apps on your Treo will often depend on how you moved your old data / apps over. A plan at the beginning will save a lot of frustration at the end.

Graffiti & shortcuts:
Someone mentioned G-anywhere above and that is an option. I think you'll experience the power of the keyboard pretty soon and appreciate how little the stylus needs to be removed for everyday usage. Also, a super duper freebie called "Shortcut5" by Mark Tamura replaces shortcutting taken from the Treo. It uses a "."+"title" format instead of the old Graffiti shortcut loop. It is excellent and stable on my 680. The only issues are things like ".com" where it will expect a shortcut. Just make a ".com" shortcut and your good to go. Keyboard + shortcuts are perfect for me. I've never looked back after years of G1 & G2 use on my Palms up to the T3.

Etc:
You'll miss that big screen and maybe WiFi, but the 755 is a awesome device. Some other apps that you'll wanna try on your Treo are ...
* FieldPlus - This freebie allows you to do text selection with the 5-way navi for cut/copy/paste etc. Wonderful and the stylus stays put! I feel for anyone on an iPhone w/o cut/paste.
* KeyGuardTime+ - This app by Tom Talpey is great for viewing time, memory and battery life etc in any app and returning. Stable, free and customizable.
* Dir Assist - Uses the Yellowpages.com DB online for phone, address, maps, or reverse lookups without ever using the sluggish browser. Seamless internet data comes right to the app. Fast, but still getting some dev.
* Google Maps - May be bundled on 755, but it's excellent!

Good luck

If this is true.

I ready to upgrade from my Treo 650 and was about to buy a 700p off eBay, I take it, it would be worth the wait, and what would I be gaining?

That depends on how patient you are. We still have nothing official from VZW on a release date. I personally can't stand the waiting. At least tell me something. August 1? September1? Next year? Just be honest and tell us something Verizon... please?

I'm not in a big rush as my 650 meets my current needs. The reason I ask is I have heard the 700p has some issues, and a sort of buyer beware. The other side is I have heard these same buyer beware when I bought my 650 and it has been just fine.

Please... more baseless rumors.

JRAD @ 7/23/2007 10:38:17 AM # Q
OK.... let me break it down here. If we could all just make sure that we throw out a couple of rumors every week about this baby coming to market it would allow me to handle the wait. You see, not knowing anything just makes me crazy. I would rather have a couple of unfounded rumors that hold me through until the next set of unfounded rumors comes up. I was perfectly happy waiting for the "July 4th" release, was a little disappointed but now there is nothing.

So please, I beg you... keep the rumors coming. And if any of them are based on fact that is a nice bonus.

This is exactly my new obsession. Looking at chat board after chat board for the latest rumor. Truth value no issue whatsoever.

Tasty tid-bits

JRAD @ 7/24/2007 3:40:15 PM # Q
I just got this from another stream... tasty but dates would be better.

That should hold us over for a week or two... maybe.

That means I will hold off with the purchase of a 700p

After reading about the Sprint version of this phone, to be honest I really wasn't that impressed so I bit the bullet and bought a brand spanking new 700p off eBay for a VERY good price.

Supposedly VZW training for the 755p is happening today. So you have to figure 2 weeks (at best), 4 weeks (at most) until they are available for sale.

I know for a fact that VZW corporate channels are nearly totally out of 700Ps ANYWHERE. My refurb replacement has turned out to be a total turd and I'm trying to get a new 700p out of them. I wish the 755p was already here so I could really lean on them for one. I personally prefer the fullsize SDHC and higher-capacity battery of the 700p but I DETEST getting refurbs that are just as buggy as the units they replace!

SHHHHH! Can you hear that

JRAD @ 8/14/2007 11:59:21 AM # Q
It is the sound of ... NOTHING! Where have all the rumors gone. I am dying here! Some one please... tell me how much longer we will have to wait for this phone?

RE: SHHHHH! Can you hear that
SeldomVisitor @ 8/14/2007 12:09:57 PM # Q
Given the (very recent) history of the 700p, maybe Verizon has decided to be a little more conservative (is that possible?) with the 755p's release.
