Comments on: Pink Palm Centro on the Way?

Pink Palm CentroRumors of a Pink Palm Centro have been brought up on the SprintUsers forum along with an official looking image. The image shows a pink colored Centro in the same style as some of the official promo images, which were also leaked shortly before the official Centro announcement. While a release date is far from certain at this point, a couple of posters claim to have heard of a January 6th availability date and also an in-store date of Jan 13th from various Sprint retail employees.

The Palm Centro is currently exclusively available from Sprint in the US in Onyx Black and Ruby Red. It starts at $99 when purchased with a select data plan and two year service agreement.

Given the sales of ping Nüvis, the market is there, so you are simply laughing yourself silly...

Yeah, so then why wasn't this out months ago?

Because innovation takes time. You think someone in a board meeting just suddenly shouted, "Hey, what if we make it pink?" and they just went with it?

I wonder if they'll re-sign Claudia Schiffer.

the sad part is that the colors aren't even innovative. they had to steal that from apple.

This is PALM we're typing about so THAT answer is an unequivocal "Yes!".

Be that as it may, however, they probably just were waiting to see if there was a sufficient demand for the device to justify a (large and expensive) run of a color other than black.

I think they should call this one "The Paris Hilton" model!

Apple didn't invent pink. Although Jobs has probably taken credit for it somewhere along the line.

not the actual colors, but computer devices offered in multiple colors.

abosco should be doing The Secret Diary of Ed Colligan.

Allow me to preview:

December 30, 2007: Oh my god. I'm exhausted. I'm drained. I was in the fight of my life and just barely got out in one piece. But I did it. I conquered those narrow-minded bastards on the Board of Directors. Take that, Bill Gates! Tremble, Steve Jobs. The world is mine now. I give everyone: The Pink Centro!

Cmon guys - do you REALIZE the testing that had to go into a new model like this? Palm's testing protocol is obviously very strenuous. I suppose you all think they can just dye the plastic another color but they have to ensure it meets their high standards so they are not criticized for shipping a shoddy product. They have a reputation to protect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Palm wouldn't be smart enough to send one to Jeffree Star.

Time to profit from that great "ker-plack!" sound!

[related anecdote already mentioned somewhere or other awhile back...: A year or two ago I was at Hershey Park waiting for their monorail ride to come around. While standing there with kid in tow I was watching the crowd. One teenybopper girl was text messaging like mad on her flip-cellphone, then ker-placking the cover closed with a satisfied look on her face and body language. Then another message would come in, she'd blast off a text (not QWERTY!) reply, and ker-plack it again. This went on for the entire time we were waiting for the train. It convinced me of the sheer user-interface-utility of a ker-placking cover for a phone for a large part of the customer set. Since then I've watched folks of all types doing the same ker-plack! and with the same satisfaction]

With Palm's current naming convention for smartphones, maybe they'll rechristen this one "Pinko".

Centro

JackG @ 1/2/2008 12:57:54 PM # Q
I wonder if any of the users here who completely diss Palm over the Centro, have actually had a chance to use one for any length of time at all. My Centro has had only one reset in all the time I've had it, and that was definitely from a faulty program I installed, it is fast, the sounds on it are superb, and it by far a better device overall for me than my 700p was. Maybe it's not totally innovative like the iPhone, but it's a step in the right direction for Palm. I'm looking forward to their offerings with the new Linux based OS, as well as their WinMo offerings. We need the choice so I say "GO PALM".

You fool! How dare you make a sexist remark like that! Especially with Palm using John Wayne's likeness in the new ads for this with the tagline: "Pink. It's Not Just For Grrlz."

WTF? I'm not watching TV (is there anything on?), so I had to go dig for that ad.

Is it the one PIC showcased back in November?

Apple, Steal this Idea: The iPhone Glove
http://tinyurl.com/2rykkt

>>>It’s bone chilling cold here in the Boston area these days. As I stand at the train station waiting for my always-late commuter train, I constantly feel the urge to check my email on my iPhone. The problem is, due to the touch screen, I cannot operate it without taking my gloves off. And anyone that knows anything about being cold knows that the appendages are the most important things to keep warm.

This is a continuation of a series of skirmishes that spans various PIC comments.

My retort is that the guy has no history:
