Comments on: Pre Bluetooth Tethering Workaround Published

Pre Tethering How TOMoments after posting an article about the Pre Dev Groups self imposed silence on tethering hacks, word has come out that the first Pre tethering how to has now been disclosed. The technical instructions can be found here. (Via engadget.)

This workaround will enable Internet tethering over Bluetooth. The instructions involve a bit of more advanced tinkering and settings so novices may want to hold off for now. Interested users will first have to enable developer mode on the Pre, configure some settings on your PC (the guide is tailored for Windows) and then follow the step by step.

Beautiful! Now how about skype?

They already managed to get into the underlying linux of the Pre... I believe we will get to see Skype on Pre in a matter of days!

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Unless I am mistaken, Skype is proprietary software not OSS. So they decide which systems they want to port their software to. No?

Hey Palm! Where's my PDA with Wifi and phone capabilities?

Yes, Skype is a proprietary software and they decided to release Linux versions:

There are many Linux publications supported, and reports here already shown that Debian can be installed over the pre.
So even if Skype won't compile their own version, good hackers will surely find a way.

Request...since people are looking into BT

I must admit I didn't know what tethering was until I looked it up a minute ago, and now that I have, I don't see a need for it (for myself - I admit that others might really desire such a feature). That said, now that people are hacking into the phone's Bluetooth ability, how about this: could people come up with a way so we could use our Palm Bluetooth Keyboard (the one made by Think Inside) with the Pre? That would be really sweet, especially if-and-when Documents to Go is eventually ported to it.

If the Pre could use a Bluetooth keyboard, I'd go out and buy one tomorrow! :)

I think the Pre would need to have a keyboard driver installed.
