Novatel Wireless, maker of the Minstrel line of wireless modems, and Sprint PCS, the fastest-growing all-digital, all-PCS voice and data nationwide wireless network, today announced plans to release the Merlin Wireless PC Card, using Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology for Sprint PCS and a handheld solution for the Palm V series. The solution is a sleeve that will let the PC card work in conjunction with the Palm. No release date or price is available right now. The PC Card will support 2G IS95A initially at launch and will be the first PC Card to offer software upgradeable to 1xRTT -- one of the first steps to 3G for Sprint PCS. Users will be able access the Internet from and both PCs and Palms at speeds of up to 144 kbps. The device will become a part of the Sprint PCS Wireless Web for Business -- a group of products and services aimed at enterprise customers to wirelessly extend their corporate applications to the mobile workforce. John Major, CEO of Novatel Wireless, said, "Sprint PCS continues to build on its market leadership by offering high-speed data solutions via the Sprint PCS Wireless Web for Business. Our innovative products will provide Sprint customers with 3G next generation connectivity products that enhance productivity for the professional on the go."

i think you are reading a bit too much into that...
the article mentions they are releasing a PC (therefore PCMCIA?) card and sleeve adaptor for the V. As far as I understand, the serial adaptor on the new M505 is going to be different then the current V series. Further, one would have to hope that a new modem for the M505 would use the SD slot and not a PCMCIA sleeve....
