AstroCommander's developers describe it as "a new style of shooting RPG game". Players can choose from among four possible races and will fight space monsters with various weapons through multiple levels. It costs $25. -dckiwi

Palm has added Handmark's Scrabble to their list of games available on expansion cards. It costs $30. -Kevin Crossman

A game-related site Absolutist.com has a few arcade games for the Palm OS. There are now three of them (Bubble Shooter, Bubble Thriller and Bubble FlyTrix), as well as a packed version of all three together. They are $12.50 each or $24 for all. -Alex Ander

If you love Zap 2000! you'll immediately notice the flaws in this game. It is very similar but with worse execution.

There is some to like in this game, but the animation and gameplay is not very smooth and definitely seems pretty hard even at the first level.

The game takes up almost 500k of RAM too.

Why is it that only Astraware (Zap2000!) can make these sort of space shoot-em-ups well?

Is there anyway to send in your old card for a new one? Handmark Scrablle costs practically 30 bucks itself. And well you're at it, let us write on the cards, don't make them read protect with 15 extra megs onboard.

I think you're missing the point of Palm's (and Pocket Express') SD/MMC software cards. These card make it easy to add applications without hogging you main memory. Especially for something like Scrabble which has a large dictionary component this makes a lot of sense.

Is there extra "room" on the card? Sure, but so what? There's extra room on a lot of CD-ROMs you buy but you don't ask for that to be a CD-RW do you?

At least Palm is promoting the expansion card slot --AND-- making great software for it. The Rand McNally card is great and the Palm Games card is a good value, too. Handspring never got the Springboard slot going with this sort of thing hardly at all (Tiger Woods and Pocket Express and what else?)

I think the question is, what is the difference between getting the program on an SD card versus downloading it and putting it on my own blank SD card? Can it be offered as a download for a lower price? Presumably the $30 (Scrabble) includes the cost of the card, but if I've already got my own card, then I could save a couple bucks. Alternatively, if they made the Scrabble SD writable, then it would be worth the extra money.
