PalmSource Creates New User Groups Resource

PalmSource has announced the launch of the official Palm OS User Group (PUG) Web site on palmsource.com. In addition, PalmSource is launching three new tools, an online calendar, searchable database of worldwide PUGs and a discussion forum, to help PUG leaders manage and promote their user group meetings and connect with other PUG leaders.

PUGs bring together Palm OS users from around the world and are a central component for users to discover new features, get user-to-user support, view software and hardware demonstrations and gather information on the Palm Powered economy. Participating in a PUG offers end-users an opportunity to connect and stay in touch with the new developments in the fast-moving Palm OS ecosystem.

The new tools being launched include an aggregated, online calendar for users and members to see when and where PUG meetings are happening across the globe. The Web site also includes a searchable database of worldwide PUGs enabling users to find a Palm OS User Group in their area. Additionally, a new PUG-leader only discussion forum facilitates communication and information sharing among leaders providing a critical support mechanism to discuss best practices, share knowledge and release information to the PUG leader community worldwide.

PalmSource plans to launch functionality that will provide PUG leaders with the ability to manage their PUG membership information and member communications, simplifying the administrative tasks associated with running a local PUG.

“The new Palm OS User Group Web site allows PUG leaders to connect with each other and more effectively promote the user group resource,” said Chuck Horner, president of the Personal Computing Community – Palm OS User Group in Hayward, Calif. “Palm OS User Groups worldwide can now share their knowledge and experience more easily, allowing independent PUGs to operate as a more cohesive unit.”

Palm Powered device users interested in learning more about Palm OS User Groups can visit http://usergroups.palmsource.com for information and listings on PUG events taking place around the globe. Users can also sign up to receive the Palm OS User Group Newsletter, a monthly dispatch covering topics of interest to the Palm OS community, including feature articles, tips and tricks, news blasts, event information, contests and more.

“We believe that providing these tools to PUGs will allow them to expand their membership and provide an effective marketing vehicle for Palm OS developers to more easily launch new applications by efficiently leveraging the word-of-mouth marketing of this community,” said Larry Berkin, director of worldwide developer and user group marketing at PalmSource. “We’re pleased at the early response from PUG leaders and look forward to growing PUG membership by providing essential resources to PUGs worldwide.”
