And what is blackberry's motive for agreeing to this? doesn't this dilute the value of having a blackberry slightly? -- http://www.arpx.net/article.php/top_10_palmos_applications RE: Whoa!
RIM and PalmSource have been cooking this up for ages, Sprint is the first to confirm that it will be made available. RE: Whoa!
I love that PalmInfocenter has once again been the one to break such huge news. I likned to this story on my site. http://www.gadgetsonthego.net/2005/09/blackberry-connect-coming-to-sprint.html This is MAJOR news!! You think it will be all Treos or just the newest to make upgrading desired?:) RE: Whoa!
Jimmie, stop pushing your crappy Engagdget/PIC rip-off site. Its called COMMENT SPAM you know. Surur RE: Whoa!
That's right, Jimmie. Only Surur and other Whiners are permitted to advertise here, provided that they only promote Windows Docile devices. RE: Whoa!
At least Gadgets on the Go is better than that wannabe brighthand. (poking fun at the whole idea of enthusiast website bashing) --- David RE: Whoa! Did Surur reply without posting wince specs?Dr Opinion @ 10/2/2005 1:23:57 AM #
Unbelievable. Do your microsuck handlers know you're wasting their precious bandwith with trivial posts that don't mention wince? :) ------ "People who like M$ products tend to be insecure crowd-following newbies lacking in experience and imagination." RE: Whoa!
Yes, and there's the equally amusing pocketpcthoughts.com. But why bother with that - the Whiners will regurgitate Hansberry's fantasies for us here at PIC soon enough. RE: Whoa!Dr Opinion @ 10/2/2005 4:01:47 PM #
> "...will all you kids please go back to 1src.com..." Oh that's just great. A paid micro$uck shill bitching at palm fans to get off a *palm* site becuase he'd rather hear pro-wince propaganda on said *palm* site??? How silly. RE: Whoa!AdamaDBrown @ 10/2/2005 5:14:46 PM #
No offense intended, D.O., but I think most of us here prefer a reality-based community. RE: Whoa!Dr Opinion @ 10/3/2005 1:02:52 PM #
By "reality" I imagine you mean "dedicated to wince, a platform doomed to be dumped by m$ and replaced by an XP derivative within 18 months." Takes all kinds. :) RE: Whoa!AdamaDBrown @ 10/3/2005 3:11:05 PM #
replaced by an XP derivative within 18 months
Obviously, there are others who don't prefer reality. See the Competition forum for a breakdown of why this is an unreasonable expectation.
Things are looking brighter for a new and decent PalmOS Treo soon, as I doubt the 650 has much space for this (or any other software) on most user's devices.
No requirement to go to the "dark side" Treo for at least another year or two. Whoot.

RE: MSFT's Next Victim: RIM
Thanks for the advertisement. I know I can buy a Windows Docile device if I want to. I think I'll stick with my REAL Treo for now and not go for some pale imitation of it. Dual OS flavoured goodness?
Actually, the prospect of a dual OS device is quite appealing. If you recieved a device that had two different OSes on say a memory card or similar and it allowed you to install the one you wished. This would be incredibly handy for Ryan and other reviewers as it would allow you to save on shelling out for two different devices.
As for the whole Microsoft/RIM idea, it doesn't pay to be a small company in Microsoft's way - look what it did to Sendo...

RIM is a provider of "innovative wireless solutions for the worldwide mobile communications market" (from their website). They don't really care who gets the hardware to market... RIM just wants to sell blackberry service as far and wide as possible. Move along. Nothing to see here. :) RE: Nothing to see here...
What happened to the long ago announcement that Palm would be bringing BlackBerry functionality to the Palm device? Nokia has a software BB client on some of their smaprtphones, why not Palm for the Treo 650?
RE: Nothing to see here...AdamaDBrown @ 10/1/2005 1:35:15 AM #
Like the SD WiFi drivers, Palm's version of the BB Connect client disappeared into the ether of advances promised but never delivered. It's a big place. RE: Nothing to see here...Dr Opinion @ 10/1/2005 1:54:26 PM #
> "...What happened to the long ago announcement that Palm would be bringing BlackBerry functionality to the Palm device?..." This is it. I mean, really. You think Sprint wrote this? Duh. RE: Nothing to see here...AdamaDBrown @ 10/2/2005 12:59:43 AM #
No mention of PalmSource is made in the article. Perhaps Ryan could get a solid answer for us. RE: Nothing to see here...just_little_me @ 10/3/2005 6:32:53 PM #
The Palmsource version this aint. You heard it here first. Why would one go with the PSRC version when it can't even talk to the latest version of BES server...? Hopefully Palm, Inc can get this onto the virtual shelves asap!
wow this is god news. it offers some new exctement in the palm os smartphone world which is desperately longing for some. the treo has done extremely well, but unfortunately there arent too many palm os based smartphones out there. kyocera, samsung and gspda seem to be on the verge of declaring end of line on their own palm range, ALL the new smartphones being released are based on ms and even palm went ahead with ms.
with BB connect Palm and BB both can fight off MS for some more time. what i fail to understand is why are the device manufacturers NOT bringing in more palm os devices despite the obvious success of the treos?

The world will end in 2006. Just as it was predicted in the bible along with the release of Microsoft Longhorn.... :p
