New Treo Accessories Forthcoming from Palm
Palm has SKU'd up two new accessory releases for release later this quarter. Palm's latest SRP guide for June/July 2007 is essentially a carry-over from the previous edition, with few new product introductions, no product EOLs, and no significant price drops.
The first new accessory release in the listing is, unsurprisingly, a replacement OEM battery for the newest Treo smartphone, the 755p. Bearing the part number 3332WW, this battery is officially referred to as the "Treo 755p Standard Battery". Interestingly enough, Palm does not refer to batteries for older Treos as "standard" versions. This could perhaps be a hint that Palm is anxious to get a slice of Seidio's lucrative aftermarket battery business with their own self-branded extended battery down the road.
The 1600mAh Treo 755p Standard Battery fits only the 755p due to that unit's deeper battery compartment. Priced with an MSRP of $49.99, the higher-capacity but identically-sized Seidio 2100mAh battery makes for a much more compelling alternative at only $10 more (basically, 25% more power for 20% more money). Still, for users who prefer the security of a Palm-branded battery or need to pick up a spare while traveling, it's good to see an option now available for 755p owners.
Palm's other new accessory release is a new package of screen protectors. Going by the name of the "Crystal Clear Screen Protector" and a part number of 3329WW, this $14.99 item appears as complimentary item to Palm's existing Anti-Glare Screen Protector pack. So it's likely that this is a single washable and reusable screen protector much like the premium protectors offered by Boxwave, JAVOedge and similar 3rd party peripheral companies. No device compatibility is listed by Palm so it could be a "cut to make it fit" universal design or intended for a forthcoming unannounced model.
As of this writing there's no mention of any concrete release date for the new Palm Foleo nor of any of its related accessories or which current Palm peripherals will be compatible with the Foleo such as batteries, chargers, HotSync cables etc.
Since these new accessories have not yet been officially announced, they are currently unavailable for sale on Palm's online store, though a number of online retailers and distributors have already posted listings for these new items.

Palm has made it clear to us that a slimmer formfactor has a much higher priority on their punchlist over the ability to make it through an average day without tethering to a charger.
The fact Seidio managed to put 2100mAh into the same exact space Palm only gave us 1600mAh is also another indication that Palm is more interested in how the things look in your hand rather than how they perform. Other than saving a few cents (in quantity) what's the reason Palm put such weak batteries into a device with plenty of customer feedback (and third-party solutions) indicating that even the (previous) standard of 1800mAh was insufficient?
Firing the entire WiFi team at the Treo division seems like a CYA move. Palm should be replacing the staff of the "Department in Charge of Stupid Compromises" that has decided to shrink battery life, underspec RAM, gone to non-standard MiniSD, and other actions that have eaten up the huge potential and market lead of the Treo franchise.
To think the iPhone is even considered competition to the Treo shows how badly Palm has botched what they have. Perhaps Palm is right - the Fooleo will fix the problem...

I think the writer is referring to the 2100mAh Seidio extended battery. The 2400mAh requires a larger replacement back, at least on the 750v (if it really IS able to fit in the stock battery space with OEM cover - why would anyone buy (or Seidio design) the more expensive 2100mAh one?)
