Palm Pre Extended Batteries

Palm Pre Extended BatterySeidio has taken the wraps off of their extended batteries designed specifically for the Palm Pre. The Innocell 1350mAh Extended Life Battery provides additional capacity in the same size package. The battery is currently being sold for $44.95 from the PIC store (on order) and Seidio.

Seidio is also currently developing an even larger capacity battery for the Pre. Its extended battery aims to provide 2x the standard capacity and will come with a replacement rubberized back in order to accommodate the larger size.

Hmm...

I wonder why Seidio never made an extended battery for the iPhone?

Oh, yeah. Forgot...

;-)

Interesting. I've been using an extended battery with my iPhone for 2 years now. It doubles as a case. Several companies make different kinds f them.

Maybe you were just trolling?

(Of course I was)

I have an extended battery for my iPhone too. It's a white USB cable and my laptop.

It's all about _convenience_. And if you think your iPhone-in-a-box charger is convenient, great!

cstamper - check out the one from incase - all in one case and charger.

gives me 2700 mah total.

The point is that a replaceable battery (ie Pre) is generally a better feature than one that cannot (read easily) be replaced (ie iPhone). Just like the iPhone has a larger screen which is "better", the Pre has a a replaceable battery, which is "better". Defending an obvious shortcoming (not a dealbreaker) makes one look like a hopeless fanboy.
Gosh. I feel like I'm explaining why you should bring enough candy for everyone so that none are left out at Kindergarten.

That's the thing about fanboys - they always point out that it *can* be done. Even if it makes no sense, or is horribly inconvenient/intrusive/ugly/impractical.

Trolls, on the other hand, know how to get interesting conversations started about what would otherwise be a rather boring topic.

Seidio should call this the Pre 3Gs. Just strap a compass to the back - it could double as a case!

Apple fanboys hanging out on Palm Pre forums? Either Apple is a little scared or the fanboys need more help than I thought.

trust

Gekko @ 6/29/2009 6:26:23 PM # Q

i dont trust -

1. minimal extra life
2. fire hazard
3. life expectancy
5. heat
6. software/OS compatibility

IMO it's not worth the cost or risks vs. OEM.

and the rumpshaker option is just ridiculous.

RE: trust
freakout @ 6/29/2009 7:20:18 PM # M Q
Agreed on the rumpshaker. But i happily used a Seidio extended replacement with my 680 for ages with no complaints, and the two hours extra life was nothing to sneeze at.
RE: trust
LiveFaith @ 6/29/2009 10:24:27 PM # Q
For a little over a 15% increase over OEM, I'm sure this thing is expensive.

BTW, how fast does the Pre boot? I've not read that anywhere. Hopefully, nothing like my dinosaur slow 680. Makes a difference when considering carrying an extra batt.

A whopping 1:46 stock! Some things have not changed. Two minutes to boot a phone makes battery swaps cumbersome. iPhone in :30 they report ... that's acceptable.

iphone 3gs actually takes 27 seconds - and that's for a 32 gig. - the 16 gig. might be faster.

BTW live, be careful - injecting too much reality into the proceedings could affect freak's mental health - LOL. 1:46 boot time for the pre.

The boot time for the Pre certainly isn't good, but how often do you reboot it? I've only had mine since Saturday, but I've onlyhad to boot up twice.

The battery life so far is much better than the Centro it replaced (not a high bar, I know...). By far, my biggest gripe is Sprint's network (at least, in my area). I'm hoping they hurry up w/ the 4G network...

batteries cost 5$

zuhmir @ 6/30/2009 6:45:37 AM # Q
On ebay, batteries cost approx. 5$ including worldwide shipment (from HongKong usually) for any type of phone/pda/camera.
they are so cheep that i can afford to buy 4 batteries just in case i get a a dead one... my T3 runs on a 5$ battery for the last year and also my video camera. I heard about fire hazards but i don't believe in them.

I just don't get why all these iPhone users are commenting on "Palm Inforcenter."

Must be phone envy.

maybe alot of iPhone users used to be palm users??

that may also be why alot of iPhone users highlight the pre's limitations - because the iPhone doesn't have them.

RE: a lot of iphone users
glamajamma @ 6/30/2009 3:59:30 PM # Q
So People that don't own a Palm product are on a Palm website comparing their phone, that isn't Palm, to a Palm product they have never owned or used.

Yeah that sounds like trolling to me.

Right - we'll ignore those users who create an account just to post about other users.

Intense Palm interest there.

I think it's more likely a terribly insecure personality. They can't be sure they made the right choice by moving away from Palm. They worry that somehow they might be missing out on something. They "need" Palm products to be inferior to their choice so they can feel good about themselves and believe they really are an intelligent human being. So they keep coming back to try to convince themselves that "Palm sucks".

Just humor them. You don't want the burden of having contributed to their decompensation.

Hey Palm! Where's my PDA with Wifi and phone capabilities?

RE: a lot of iphone users
cstamper @ 7/1/2009 4:26:21 AM # Q
*Some* of use used to be palm users, actually. Or, in my case, a palm developer.

I've been using palm PDA's since the m500. After my TX died, I finally went iPod Touch/iPhone.

So I'm still hanging around, hoping that WebOS will be what I've been waiting for.

RE: a lot of iphone users
twrock @ 7/1/2009 4:55:35 AM # Q
.... and then there are people like cstamper here, who actually have some legitimate interest in Palm's future, people who although they have bought an iPhone/iPod Touch, don't feel any necessity to continuously denigrate Palm's products in order to feel secure about what they've done. ;-)

Please interpret that smiley to mean that, yes, I do need to remember that not all iPhone/iPod Touch users who hang around here fall into the same pattern. Hey, I'm still here, and I have no intention of buying a Pre. (But at least I still use a Palm product and don't yet own something else I claim is better.)

"Right - we'll ignore those users who create an account just to post about other users."

But I own a Palm product right now. My phone right before my Pre was a 755. I don't spend time on iphoneinfocenter.com or whatever website is out there for iphone. I go to precentral.net and palminfocenter etc.

BECAUSE I own a freakin Palm.

RE: a lot of iphone users
abosco @ 7/1/2009 6:30:22 PM # Q
I'm still here because I've been around for more years than I care to admit, and I'm still interested in news concerning Palm. I've helped more people out of jams on this site and discovered ancient workarounds that some people still enjoy, like the cryptic Wifi Hotsync, than you'll ever be able to read in one sitting. I was faithful to Palm for long enough that the company can stand my criticism for a few years and still be in the black in terms of praise. If you've got a problem with that, tough shit.

I couldn't care less if you own the entire god-damned city of Sunnyvale; the only reason you created an account was to post about other posters.

At this moment the ONLY posts you've made are about other posters.

Want to make a post about something =Palm= now or would you like to continue and make another post that does nothing more than denigrate a fellow poster?

RE: a lot of iphone users
twrock @ 7/2/2009 4:25:48 AM # Q
Hmm, I can't figure out what difference it makes if someone denigrates Palm or denigrates "a fellow poster". When someone's ripping on how Palm is being run, aren't they denigrating Colligan or Rubinstein or some VP who just lost his job. Why is one better than the other. Why, why why?!!!

Who's making up these rules anyway? I thought this was an "anything goes, free-for-all". No?

(If there is a rule book, I'd better read it. I'm sure I'm breaking all sorts of rules.)

Hey Palm! Where's my PDA with Wifi and phone capabilities?

You can like more than one company at a time you know.
NDPTAL85 @ 7/2/2009 1:42:15 PM # Q
Before I purchased my iPhone I owned 5 Palm OS devices in a row. I even sold half of my office on buying Treos. I was an enthusiastic supporter of the platform, until Ed Cooligan proved he was trying to kill it.

I owned a Kyocera 6035 Smartphone, its successor the Kyocera 7135 Smartphone, then the Treo 600, 650 and 700p. I only left because Palm kept stalling on the next generation OS. The constant promises of a BeOS based and then Linux based OS which eventually came true in webOS but just 7 years too late. When it was only 5 years too late the first iPhone arrived.

Now just because I love my iPhone it doesn't mean I don't want to see Palm do well. Competition benefits everyone, including those who have no intention of switching platforms.

That being said, I or anyone don't need any reasons to be on a Palm site other than "we want to be." If you can't handle that then well tough cookies.
