Welcome to PalmInfocenter v5.0!
Welcome to the new version of PalmInfocenter.com. Today we’ve released a new site redesign, our 5th major overhaul since 1999. v5.0 features a fresh new look with faster loading times, an enhanced layout and some other new features, while still retaining the classic PIC look and feel. We will have some exciting relaunch giveaways very shortly so stay tuned.
Special thanks goes out to Kent Pribbernow of PocketFactory for his help and work on the site design.
Please let us know if you have any trouble or spot any bugs. The PalmInfocenter store will be updated with the new design soon as well. Thanks for reading and we hope you enjoy the new PalmInfocenter!
You can checkout previous versions of PIC over at the Internet Archive.

RE: Crashes IE6
Gekko - I am using ie6 to post this now and it's working for me. Not sure why it would crash for you. Try deleting your cache files and trying again. Let me know if it still gives you problems.

RE: Crashes IE6
Deleted IE Temp files, cache, history, etc. and IE still crashes (death freeze) when I click on "Comments" to read them and/or post.

RE: Crashes IE6
what version of IE you are you using?
What OS?
Which exact links are causing the problem and what exactly happens?
Does this happen when you try to post a comment? (if so which form and page are you using)
thanks, I can't seem to replicate this myself.
RE: Crashes IE6
Can you be specific about which page url and what action causes the crash?
RE: Crashes IE6
ie6 on xp sp1 v 6.0.2800
Freezes and must be killed. IE5 however seems to work fine.

Hey Admin: Why do we have to keep two profiles?
RE: Crashes IE6
(as a side note - use firefox or if you have to at least IE7 for the best experience.)
2 Issues
2. The Article and Article Comments are nearly to the edge of the left side of the screen, which is visually jarring and unpleasant.
PIC redesign is as buggy as a new Palm.
Flashy, less functional and buggy is how I would sum up the redesign. Did you hire Palm engineers to do your beta testing, Ryan?
Clicking on the "comments" button immediately and consistently crashes Internet Explorer 6. I'm surprised this wasn't obvious when (if?) you tested the redesign. I actually had to drag out my Treo 700p to post this. Is it possible for you to revert back to the old (perfectly functional) site until you work the bugs out?
Also, while eye candy (fancy schmancy graphical design) may seem nice, please let form FOLLOW function. For example, it's now difficult to determine which "Comments" button is associated with which article.
PLEASE bring the "Zen of Palm" back to Palminfocenter, Ryan. Your site is far too good to spoil with nonfunctional fluff. 40 lashes with a wet noodle to Kent Pribbernow ("Foo Fighter") for messing up PIC!
[Don't be offended by the above comments Ryan - you know I always tell it like it is. I hope you'll take this as constructive criticism]

RE: PIC redesign is as buggy as a new Palm.
The site is perfectly viewable on the Treo 700p browser, but log in info was immediately lost after my previous post.

Still not woking, Ryan.

Nice rebranding
It's good to see a fresh look once in a while... hope it didn't cost the millions most corporate rebrandings do!! ;-)

IE users!
(yes, I am joking. from Safari!)
Palm TX + 1GB SD + Motorola v3x = awesomeness
Very nice colors!
Keep the good work. PIC is the best Palm site by far.
Regards.
Mobile Browsing/Posting
Is Mobile Browsing/Posting any better yet? If not, how about a better mobile version?
Thanks.
Good job - well done
It looks very nice, while still keeping a strong recognition factor towards the "old" design.
The new colors look fresh, nice and professional.
The loading speed is great too.
Since reading the postings, I did some jumping around. I could however not discover any inconvenience or bugs.
(Well, I am also one of those happy Firefox (2.0) users.)
Thank you very much for this great (re-)design.
Best regards from Switzerland,
icarus

Postings: Comments / Forum
When posting a comment to an article, the edit function seems to be gone.
Is there no way to edit a posted comment?
Also some formatting functionality seems to be gone as well.
Is BBCode not supported anymore? Or only in the forum but not the comment section?
My signature was done in smaller font and partially in italic (using BBCode). The font is smaller than the regular message block. But italic does not work (or is it because the previous setting was done with small 'i' rather than capital 'I'?). Also it shows the tags (eventually because not supported anymore?).
Is there a reason why the forum section and the comment section do not allow the same comment / signature formatting?
Else: A great job and a nice design.

RE: Postings: Comments / Forum
there is no edit on the article comments right now, it is planned.
Basically the forum and article comments are handled differently, so BB code only works in the forum.
I also have two different signatures so you can add images, and userbars etc to the forums, but
the article comments just use text to keep things simple.

I'm still waiting for the mythical color HandEra.
Fixed width, horizontal scrolling
RE: Fixed width, horizontal scrolling
It is a little bigger width wise, I may make some adjustments.
RE: Fixed width, horizontal scrolling
About eight hundred pixels wide, which works well for Slate and the old Slashdot.
> It is a little bigger width wise, I may make some adjustments.
Thanks; I learned in my Palm VII days that fixed-width web pages are a bad thing.
