Treo Battery ChargerTreonauts Review New Palm Treo Battery Charger
The always-reliable Andrew over at the Treonauts blog has posted a surprise review of the recent, quietly released Palm Treo Battery Charger. Essentially a highly mobilized version of the Palm Treo Cradle Kit's charging cradle pocket, this nifty little item allows the user to insert a Treo battery for charging via any sort of MultiConnector-equipped cable. The review mentions that AC, DC, and USB charge cables all work fine with the charger but unfortunately none are included. Some fine close-up product shots are also provided, along with a comparison with the similar but larger, more feature-packed Seidio version of this charger. No word if the unit will accompodate the extra-thick Seidio 3200mAh Treo battery that I use.

Brighthand Analysis of Palm's Linux-based OS Slideshow
The online world has been filled with buzz in the week since Palm's Analyst Day conference. The main focus of that day's presentation was first bits of information released on their upcoming Linux-based Palm OS replacement. Brighthand has posted a thorough analysis piece that examines several key slides from the Palm presentation and how they might leverage their traditional strengths to best develop a new smartphones OS. As BH clearly acknowledges, Palm has been very tight-lipped with details since last week's presentation. Therefore, any current analysis of Palm's future OS or hardware plans requires a great deal of speculation and evaluation in hindsight of their past efforts.

PDAMill Drops Palm OS Product Line
Jeff Mitchell writes, Was cruising around looking for updates to applications and noticed PDAMill (Gamebox Solitaire and others) had renamed itself and also discontinued its Palm OS line of applications.

A statement from the company reads:

"Unfortunately, due to some of our Palm OS products literally working on a device by device basis and recent developments with the Palm OS platform itself, PDAmill is officially discontinuing all of our products for the Palm OS platform."

Device to Device Basis

Nice work, Palm. I remember a few years ago when the above sentence was written almost verbatim - but the developers were referring to Windows CE/PocketPC/WinMob. Now it appears that the developers (Iambic and Landware for example) have begun developing for WinceMob again... and now developers are dropping PalmOS because of what a PITA it's become to support all the different hardware implementations (apparently all within Palm - who else is making PalmOS devices?!?).

At this rate, Palm may "catch up" with Microsoft and lose all support from developers..

Battery charger

"No word if the unit will accomodate the extra-thick Seidio 3200mAh Treo battery that I use." Although I don't own either the charger here or the Seidio battery, I do own the cradle. At least in the cradle, the battery will charge as long as it's placed in the door; the door doesn't need to be closed. Worst case scenario, you should be able to remove the top cover and insert the Seidio that way.

Yup, that's what I was thinking. I guess I'll probably go ahead and end up ordering the battery charger just to keep in my travel bag.

I have the big Seidio battery and the Palm OEM cradle and the RumpShaker battery charges perfectly in the cradle. There's plenty of room in the cradle base to accomodate that big sucker!
