PalmInfocenter Wins the 2007 PalmAddict Reader Awards

PalmAddict Reader AwardsPalmInfocenter has been awarded the Best Palm / PDA news site in the 2007 PalmAddict Reader Awards. PIC received the most votes with just under 20,000 people voting among 30 other popular blogs, tech and mobile focused sites.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all who voted and read the site. And also a huge thank you to the PIC writing staff, contributors, moderators and volunteers, without whom I don't think this award would be possible. All of your efforts are enormously appreciated.

I'd also like to announce that today marks the ninth anniversary of the founding of PalmInfocenter. It was on this day in 1999 that I first started posting about Palm news and software on a green and black site designed to resemble a Palm III backlit screen. Here's to many more years and a exciting 2008!

Here's to You, Ryan

Ryan -

And I can remember that day not much more than 9 years ago when you, Mead and other Phila-PUG denizens helped me do the very first 'tricks' on my Palm III. (I think it was Mead who beamed me Filez, which was the first file I ever received).

Thanks for making life easier over these last years.

You deserve every accolade.

Harold

Congratulations!

Although I was a PDABuzzer for most of my early years, PIC has been a daily read since. I think you need put up a page of the original site just for old time sake. By the way, my pristine IIIxe patiently waits in it's drawer for the day it once again becomes my main PDA and thanks to Palm that probably will be sooner then later.

PDA's Past and Present:
Palm TX (Number 2)
Palm - IIIxe, Vx, M500, M505, Tungsten T, TX
Handspring - Edge, Platinum, Deluxe
Sony - SJ22
Casio-EM500
Apple - MP110, MP2000, MP2100

Spammer notice posts gone!

So, did the spammer come back and remove your posts about the spammer scripts or did you?

You rolled back to preSpammer time.

PIC Status - We're back

Admin @ 1/8/2008 10:27:16 AM # Q
The site had to be taken offline last night after a large spam/hack attack. It seemed to have been a part of the massive spam attack that has been occurring on hundreds of thousands of websites the past two days.

We had to do a restore and in the process may have lost a comments or two - apologies for that but we should be ok going forward now. Kinda a bummer, not exactly how I planned on spending the anniversary.

Yes, it was quite "interesting" to have just posted my congratulations on your award and then see pile of spam start up. (I promise, I had nothing to do with it.) Anyway, once again, congratulations! You deserve it.

Why is this buried in a frikkin COMMENT and not as a top-level notice? I saw PIC was down this AM. Puzzling, but it could have been some router down somewhere. I wouldn't have know it was an attack if I wasn't curious about the "spammer" Comment line.

So, were these Chinese hackers?

Or was it Revenge of Napster (remember that?!)?

Congrats Ryan...from a humble ex-reviewer...and thanks for a decade of excellent content! I look forward to future news on Palm, WinMob, Android, or whatever platform gets its act together. For now, I am still rocking my 700p...but I'm being open-minded for the future. Perhaps you need to register a couple of backup URLs. ;-)

cheers,
Steve

This is the oldest, August 2000, that the internet archive wayback machine has:

There was an older version. I used to have it bookmarked, but I can't find it anymore. I'm pretty sure it was hosted on Ryan's Earthlink homepage. THAT was the green and black one. Ryan, can we get a link to that one?

The Palm OS was so much more interesting back then. Today, it's rehashed models and bad executives. (Well, I guess some things never change.)

Thanks for all the memories, Ryan. I had completely forgotten about hacking Furbys with IR and palms :)
