PalmSource Names Jean-Louis Gassee Chairman of the Board

PalmSource today announced Jean-Louis Gassee has been appointed Chairman of the PalmSource Board of Directors. Gassee, 60, was appointed to the Company's Board of Directors in May 2002. He replaces the outgoing Chairman Eric Benhamou.

SanDisk Bumps Up SD and MS Pro Capacities

SanDisk at CTIA introduced the world's largest capacities of Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo and SD cards with 4-gigabyte (GB), 1GB and 2GB capacities respectively. These new cards are double the current maximum capacities and are designed to fit into a broad range of digital devices and consumer electronics devices.

Astraware's Bejeweled 2 Coming Soon

Bejeweled 2, the sequel to the best selling PDA game, Bejeweled, will make its handheld debut less than a month after PopCap's PC version and will retain all the features of its bigger brother, including four standard play modes, classic, action, endless and the all-new puzzle mode. Additionally, five special bonus modes are unlocked as players progress through the various standard modes.

IDC: Handheld Market Declines 3rd Consecutive Quarter

The worldwide market for handheld devices experienced its third successive quarter of year-over-year decline in the third quarter of 2004 according to IDC's latest report. Despite strong shipments from the top five vendors, the market continued to shrink due to a drop in shipments from market leader palmOne and the ongoing withdrawal of Sony.

Sprint Plans to Be First with the Treo 650

Sprint announced plans today be the first wireless carrier to offer the new palmOne Treo 650. The Treo 650 will be available next month at Sprint Stores, Sprint business channels and online for $599.99. Sprint business customers will also have the option to purchase a non-camera version of the device later this year.

palmOne Releases Tungsten T5 ROM Update

palmOne has released a ROM software update for the Tungsten T5. The update is being issued even before general retail availability and contains some performance enhancements and fixes some known issues.
