BusinessWeek has just posted an informative new piece that actually sheds some new light on the Palm Pre's potential assembly cost. Entitled "
An Early Peek Under the Palm Pre's Hood", the article is written by Arik Hesseldahl and dated today.
Based primarily around a recent report from industry assembly cost firm iSuppli, Hesseldahl claims that the Palm's manufacturing cost is currently estimated to be approximatey $138. While key component prices, especially NAND flash memory, do fluctuate almost daily, Palm's healthy margins on the device should only increase over time, as production is ramped up. iSuppli analyst Tina Teng is quoted extensively within the article and stresses that a great deal of speculation has been used to arrive at these figures as no actual production Pre devices have been made available for an actual "teardown".

While too lengthy to cover in full here, a great deal of interesting information is clarified, confirmed and revealed in this mammoth update. So assuming the blog and the latest post's contents are 100% accurate, a number of interesting details are covered, including:

EveythingPre and the
TreoCentral forums have picked up and posted a set of newly leaked Palm Pre spy shots. The new pics were apparently posted to a
Twitter account this afternoon and then quickly pulled.
While yet another round of pics of the Pre is not usually notable, one of the included shot shows a previously unseen native YouTube application. The blurry, and presumably camera-phone snapped shots, appear to have been taken today. The other images show a close up of the email composition screen and a quick size comparison with an iPhone.
