No PPC Conduit?

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/16/2002 2:45:10 PM #
Isn't it odd that Microsoft made a conduit for Palm handhelds and not there own Pocket PC's? Although I doubt there are that many PPC/Mac users.

> Although I doubt there are that many PPC/Mac users

Just about zero. That's one of the reasons why I got a Palm and I'm so happy I didn't fall into Microsoft's trap. Though I think some company is trying to make a way for Macs to access PPCs.

Microsoft is going to buy Palm

The FTC wouldn't allow that in a million years. It would totally destroy all competition in the handheld market.

That sounds like the usual Microsoft tactic to me. :-)

Seriously, that is never going to happen. Even Gates knows he can't just swoop in with his bag of money and buy off Palm. The DOJ would nail him to a cross.

In answer to the first poster, no it's not odd at all, considering that you can't sync your PocketPC with a Mac anyway...

I guess the question is why you would want to.
RE: No PPC Conduit?
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/16/2002 7:32:22 PM #
Pocketmac is a third party solution.

There is no Activesync(PPC sync manager) for MacOS.

That would be the reason that MS did not include a PPC conduit for Entourage.

Maybe I should have beem more specific. No solution is provided out of the box: You have to purchase it seperately and it will cost you about $50. (But then if you have that much extra cash to blow on a PocketPC in the first place, what's another $50, right? )

RE: No PPC Conduit?
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/16/2002 10:59:11 PM #
There are many mac users who use PPC through third party apps such as listed here already. But using VirtualPC (Windows & DOS Emulator) software, you can sync it as well. I know someone who has an ipaq and syncs it this way. VirtualPC is like having 2 computers in 1.

do some research before you respond with such bogus facts!

Next it will bring out a Java-plugin for Netscape browsers to display OpenOffice files on a Linux machine.

I mean, come on, MS supporting Mac AND Palm in one software? Maybe the DOJ did leave an impression - or is Ballmer only half as evil as ...

Offtopic: Middle Caps Hack

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/16/2002 2:51:47 PM #
hello all, this has nothing to do with the above topic but does anyone know where i can download Middle Caps Hack? it divides the grafitti area into two so one half is auto caps and the other is normal small letters. or if anyone can send the file over to me, gavlim@hotmail.com

also, does anyone know if there is a way to hotsync my hotmail into my sony clie? what program do i use and how do i go about it?

RE: Offtopic: Middle Caps Hack
BiffK @ 7/16/2002 3:38:19 PM #
http://www.palmgear.com
search for MiddleCapsHack I think.
Most download sites will have it.

I'd recommend looking into QuickType it is free as well. It transforms your graffiti into a keyboard when you use an overlay.

For MiddleCaps Hack, try www.palmgear.com. If it's not there, I suggest searching on Yahoo or something.

To Hotsync Hotmail, first set up Outlook Express to download your e-mail. This shouldn't be too hard. I think you go to Tools->Accounts and then follow the wizard to set up your e-mail account. Then, go to the options for the Mail conduit and there should be a way to select Outlook Express as your e-mail program.

Peace Out

BiffK @ 7/16/2002 3:53:27 PM #
Sorry, didn't read the whole post... I have tried over and over again to find a way to hotsync with Hotmail. I don't believe it can be done at all.
Outlook Express will connect and download your e-mail, but puts the hotmail e-mail in a special Hotmail folder which Hotsync does not read.

If anyone knows better let me know.

popko @ 7/16/2002 4:44:07 PM #
You can edit the rules from Tools->Message Rules and have outlook move all the messages in that special Hotmail folder into the folder Palm reads.

Or

Get a 3rd party e-mail client software for Palm, one of which allows you to pick which folder it will get e-mails from.

you can get MiddleCapsHack directly from the developer here:

What About T615C Owners?

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/16/2002 4:07:08 PM #
Reading through the patch install info on Sony's website, it lists several models that are compatible with this patch. There is no mention of the T615C. For those of us with a PEGA SA10, is this a necessary/usable fix?
RE: What About T615C Owners?
popko @ 7/16/2002 4:46:55 PM #
"Don't fix what's ain't broken."

Sounds like you have not encountered the issue. In that case, why get the patch at all?

RE: What About T615C Owners?
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2002 8:34:52 AM #
I was curious about this as well; Sony often includes other fixes in a patch that don't correspond with what they tell you.

Who say there's no patch for T665C ?

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/16/2002 8:12:04 PM #
They DID NOT exclude T665C from the update, here you go:

There wasn't even a support section for the T665c when I looked a few hours ago.

Keyboard

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/16/2002 9:09:18 PM #
So, ThinkOutside makes a keyboard for the phone... yet not for the T-series CLIE?!?! WTF, there are a lot more people who have a T-series than a Smartphone. TO is pretty stupid IMO.
RE: Keyboard
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/16/2002 9:54:59 PM #
I'm sure Kyocera worked aggressively with them to get the keyboard made, probably even paying for part of the development costs. Sony doesn't care much about third party accessories and it shows. This is a big time mistake. Accessories are a big selling point.
RE: Keyboard
drw @ 7/17/2002 12:34:10 AM #
wasn't so with the 6035 release. 6035 users begged, pleaded with thinkoutside and only got "kyo won't give us the pinouts so we can't make a keyboard" then all of a sudden the keyboard for the 6035 was released. not very usefull since it wouldn't work online so it looks like this time they are fixing that.

There will be a T-series Stowaway next month. I guess it just takes time from announcement [I didn't heard about the "T-" Stowaway until recently, and not from Think Outside] to retail.

7135 is big?

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2002 3:42:41 AM #
Well, I can't recall keyboards being "announced" before the device came out. I really want the 7135 too. I'll get one of the OS5's too, but I don't have a Cellphone yet and it seems great for it. Time to bag away my trusty Visor platinum.

RE: Whoa! Wassup is cool!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2002 3:38:07 PM #
I like the skins also, but am getting tired of seeing them posted to PalmGear all the time. I don't consider supliments to applications (such as dictionaries, picture files, ebooks, skins, etc.) to be "updates" to applications. There should be a place specific web page that people can post "skins" to, and those that are interested should have some way of being notified when new ones are released. Spare us from having to see 10000 new skins. (Or post them on Handango where nobody cares anyway...they let developers "touch" their apps w/o real updates any time they want just to get exposure on Handangos updated list every single day [re: Datebook on Clock, DataKeeper, etc.])
RE: Whoa! Wassup is cool!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2002 7:37:18 PM #
That's nothing to do with the developer, more to do with how PalmGear operate their website... The skins don't appear as an "application" update. They are seperate items. I can't quite see what you're on about actually. At least he's not charging for them like others. And when people charge for them they appear on the front page of PalmGear.

RE: Whoa! Wassup is cool!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2002 12:27:30 AM #
I kind'a see the point. What if "Download.com" let every skinner post every skin for every skinable windows app. What a mess that would be... Still, this is, like you said, an issue of pourly handled posting rules on both PalmGear and Handango. I wish both site would let you "customize" the categories (or at least filter out) that you interested in. Would save a bunch of time browsing through posted items.
