Rumor: New Palm Details Leaked

Geek.com has new details of Palm's latest Palm. The Palm, codenamed Calvin, will feature a changeable faceplate, new handwriting software, and more and will sell for approximately $150. Check out more details at Geek.com. (Keep in mind that this is an unconfirmed rumor, but logical nonetheless -R)

Update: Geek.com has released more details on this rumor. Calvin should ship in August and Calvin II is supposed to ship with a USB/serial combo cable, sell for $199, and also feature a brand new e-mail app. Calvin I is expected to drop to $129 when the new one comes out. No date was given for the release of Calvin II.

Some of this is logical but it directly contradicts other rumors I've heard. Plus, I really don't see Palm switching to another handwriting recognition system.

Yeah, they already have a good system in place that has set a new standard, to possibly change it now that they have millions of users makes little to no sense. You can already go and get a copy of Jot or similar program that gives you a different system, perhaps it's an option-type thing.

I do like the idea of custom units however.

It would make sense for them to, if anything, improve on the handwriting recognition. Although Grafiti was great for its time, it is hard to get used to & slow. I'm using the Visor, and even though I know Graffiti very well, the action I use most often is "backspace".
my question, however, is: Would the new recognition be backwards compatible with programs that use the old system?

If you are going to hammer a nail, use a hammer not a shoe. If you are going to write lecture notes, use a pen and paper not graffiti.

for a quick sentance grafitti is fine. for word processing-use a keyboard and transfer your notes via Palm desktop or doc to go.
