Comments on: TRG Products Changes Name to HandEra

TRG Products, maker of the TRGpro, is refocusing its efforts on selling its handheld. As part of this process, it is hiring more salespeople, having its engineers focus on improving the TRGpro, stopping its contract work for other companies, and even renaming itself to HandEra to better reflect its focus on handheld computer products. This news comes in a Des Moines Register article.

The company has already registered its new domain but the site just has the message "Coming soon... a new era in handheld computing". It isn't clear yet whether the handheld will also have a name change, though it seems likely.

Handera name sucks

Good that they are gonna change their plan. That name fucking sucks. They must live in a hick state.

myabe they could spiff up the device itself while they're at it. Changing the color from that old looking gray to BLACK and having a sleeker logo could do wonders.

Boy, this is why I don't spend much time here at this board...the intelligence level of the posts are just too much for me.

I guess I must be from a hick state.

this board is great. the name does suck. They have spelled out there own demise in 7 letters.

besides.. what if i am a amputee? I might use the pda with my foot. I find the suggestion that Pda's are only for those with hands insulting.

What?!?! Get real. It does in no way suggest that ONLY people with hands can use it. So, let's see... we should change the name of "handheld computer" to "appendage computer". Oops...can't do that. What if you had no arms and no legs. That name suggests you have an appendage and need to have one to use the device.

Do you have the same complaint about Handspring? What about Palm? If you were an amputee you wouldn't have a palm either would you?

This being politically correct bullshit is getting to be too much. IT IS JUST A NAME!!!!

My opinion: I like the name HandEra.

How about these:
Sometimes I wear clothing that doesn't have pockets. The Pocket PC suggests that you're supposed to put the pda in your pocket. I can't. I find that insulting. They should change that name.

A "laptop" computer suggests your supposed to put the computer on your lap. What about those people who have no legs, and therefore, no lap? Oh...that is insulting too. They should never use that name again.

People in wheelchairs should be insulted because the Walkman suggests only people who can walk can use the device. They shouldn't use that name as well.

:) you're funny, all of you..

well, HandEra might not be the sleekest or most modern name they could possibly think of, but it's helluva lot better than "TRG." where i'm from, people only know 2 names in the handheld (ehemm, appendage-held) industry-- palm and handspring, so when i tell them what mine is, all i get is T-R-whaaat? i suppose "HandEra" would sound just a teensy bit better.

what i'd really like to see is more things i can pop into my CF slot! all i can put is memory, or a modem (which i don't need), or a.. BAR CODE WAND???

i get green with envy with all the nifty springboard modules coming up!! (except for the tiger woods module..:) hehe)

I am surprised that respondents to this forum can actually spell "sucks" correctly.

This is not a hick state. We have electricity. Every day. All of the time.

This name change is an improvement?

I.M. Anonymous @ 2/22/2001 4:28:38 AM #
Don't get it. When a company is building a customer base, switch to some foo-foo name like HandEra?? Kind of reminds me of when PalmCentral switched to Bojangles or Handangles.... oh it was Handango... haven't really looked at the site since. As I type that, it really is kind of weird to realize that in the web world, a name does matter.

Bottom line, if they make their device sleeker... getting into a smaller size and better form-factor... the name may not be such an issue. $150 or $550, the cost is secondary to having something small enough to pocket and versatile enough to accept expansion acccessories. Otherwise, go for a Symbol... wireless LAN capability is a reasonable trade-off for size increase... as long as I can still pocket that personal Palm device for mobility on-the-go!!

Cool !
