Bejeweled again?

kevdo @ 5/23/2003 7:20:22 PM #
I think we all can agree Bejeweled is one killer game. But isn't this game a couple years old now?

Wish Handango had limited the nominees to programs introduced or updated with major revisions in the last year.

What about me?

I don't know, I thought my game, Market Trade, was pretty cool. Maybe it didn't get thousands of downloads because it doesn't have 3-D graphics, but it's a fun way to pass a little bit of time (like on public transit) without killing your braincells. I guess I'll have to come up with something new for next year's awards.

Re: Market Trade

The current BEAR market probably has something to do with it. It would have been a lot more popular if it was introduced during the bubble of 1995-1999.

Nice game anyway. Thanks for your efforts.

I agree, Bejeweled, while nice, is just the same game with a few enhancements such as some nice graphics and good sound. But it's still the same game. Billiards 4 should win that category easily, but I'm trying to understand why Monopoly is there, and why GTS Racing/Insaniquarium/Dragonfire aren't on that list in place of it? It looks like a list from two years ago.

BTW - Nice game, Rob. I've downloaded it and I'm checking it out now.

They DID do a major update...remember, they added hi-res "advanced" graphics PLUS sounds. Pretty major to me, IMHO.

Plus, to not include one of the top-sellers would be a big hole in the awards...

Interesting nominations

I see a few controversial nominations on the Handango Champion Award list. But some (to me anyway) are just plain puzzling. SilverScreen as Best Lifestyle App?

XTNDConnect

pdangel @ 5/24/2003 7:38:22 AM #
Am very satisfied with XTNDConnect. The ex-HP guys have come up with some interesting sync, server and bluetooth products. The company i work with works uses there XTNDConncect Server product. That one is top of the bill.

PCMagazine has awarded Extended Systems' XTNDConnect Server five stars and the publication's prestigious Editor's Choice award. In addition to receiving five stars, the highest ranking possible, XTNDConnect Server was selected as the "Editor's Choice," outperforming Infowave Symmetry Pro and Microsoft Mobile Information Server 2002—Enterprise Edition.

Why Diet & Exercise Assistant instead of CalorieKing?

tsinvest @ 5/27/2003 12:46:44 PM #
I demoed both programs and ended up buying CalorieKing - it was easier to use and had a bigger database of foods. It also lets you sync your info on their site to display some info that is not available on the handheld. By the way I am speaking about CK version 3. Also on PalmGear CK had over 900 monthly downloads while DEA had over 500 - not that this makes all the difference, but obviously others feel the same as I do. BTW - DEA is a very nice program, however we are talking about "BEST" awards here - I think Handango needs to look at CK ver 3.

It's all a factor of the number of downloads for the "big" guys who buy ads on Handango. For instance, I've been using DOCTOR'S ORDERS-COMPLETE for over a year; bought it after comparing it to all the others and I've lost over 60 pounds with it in the past year. The other programs are okay, but DOCTOR'S ORDERS works best for me because it also tracks my medications and doctor appointments PLUS it has the easiest to use "fuel" and weight trackers to track progress against my targets. Again, they're all good programs, but since Damiltech is a small company who doesn't advertise, they don't get the attention (downloads) that the other guys do, even though I do believe that Dr's Orders IS the best.
