Comments on: Sprint's April Roadmap Leaked, Still No Pre in Sight

With the hopes of a Pre launch for March already dashed, the latest leaked information from Sprint might be another blow for the optimistic types hoping for a Pre launch sometime during the month of April. A new post on Engadget Mobile has what appears to be a blurry camera phone shot of a Sprint "Inventory news" screen printout page listing the new device launches for April. (also mirrored after the break) Several LG and Samsung devices, including the Rumor 2, are listed alongside a new Sierra AirCard but no mention is made of the Palm Pre.

With Palm all but acknowledging that the device is still very much a work in progress in both its hardware and software aspects, a release in May appears to be the soonest possible date. Additionally, given the continued absence of a developer SDK as of this writing, the general consensus is now that the device is still on track but that a June release is most likely at this point, as that would still bring the Pre in at the tail end of the "1st half ‘09" window stated repeatedly since CES.

I think they're afraid of someone hacking into the Pre BEFORE it gets introed...

Recently visited w/ one of the 'friendly Sprint associates' at a kiosk in our mall about release dates. He stated, when asked about when, that they have been told by Sprint that the Palm Pre will be released the latter part of May. So I'm hanging my hat on that until the peg is removed...

Wake me up when its behind the counter at Best Buy right next to the Cobalt PDA. I've had too much Pre excitement and have to take a break for a few months. TTFN

I agree. They used the date at CES to excite people about the Pre (but mostly *Palm*), but making people wait for 6 months to actually hold the device seems like suicide in this economy and competitive environment. We're in a "no man's land" where developers are backing off their commitment to PalmOS because Palm has essentially killed it, and aren't sure they want to bother with WebOS because of the problems of coding for it and the questionable value in supporting an untested OS. Apple may be the big winner the longer Palm delays release.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple has had some prototypes ready to roll for a couple years that have hardware keyboards and other improvements that will bring the iPhone up to the level of the Pre. They've already announced that cut-and-paste will finally be available on itouches and iphones this summer in a *free* firmware update. Sad to say, but Palm has been just awful with their firmware updates, preferring to milk existing customers by making them buy completely new devices.
Palm "Preh": as in "eh, where's the microSD and Garnet emulator?"

Well, is PIC going to cover this latest "rumoured" release date or not? Or are you scared of SV bashing you for reporting rumours? C'mon, don't let the loudest voice control your content. Keep giving us everything here so I don't need to go find it elsewhere.

Personally, I enjoy reading all the "news", rumour-based or with-real-substance. It's all good.

After a whole week of playing desk jockey, I've been out of the house & offline literally the entire day and haven't even thought about making the rounds online other than popping onto PIC for a bit. We usually have a light posting schedule during the weekend due to the (relative) lack of content and need for downtime etc.
