Comments on: Extended Capacity Palm Centro and Treo 800w Battery Released

Centro and Treo 800w BatteryIn what is certain to be received with a sigh of relief from power users everywhere, longtime accessory aces Seidio have finally released a higher-capacity OEM-sized battery for the Palm Centro and Treo 800w.

First up is the new Innocell 1350. This new release fits both the Treo 800w and Centro under their stock battery doors. Packing 1350mAh, an improvement of 15% over the stock 1150mAh battery, the boost provided by this battery is not as large of a leap forward as Seidio's past batteries. However, considering the slim dimensions of the stock Palm battery, any improvement is greatly appreciated, especially with the power-hungry GPS and wi-fi capabilities built into the Treo 800w.

IMO -

1. innocell - a 15% improvement is not worth the money or hassle or fire hazard or incompatibility issues.

2. seidio - the rumpshaker battery/cover is just downright ugly and dumb looking. it's not worth the ugliness or money or hassle or fire hazard or incompatibility issues.

Gekko Comment number 1. It's not bad if you're in the market for a replacement or spare battery anyway. If you're not in the market already, then I agree with your point.

Gekko Comment number 2. While the humpback no doubt takes away from the aesthetic quality of the 800w (or Centro for that matter), the massive increase in battery life is going to be worth if for some people. And for a humpback, at least the pics of the 800w, Seidio has done a nice job making it look as good as possible. I'm considering getting it for those rare times I may be away from a charger for most of the day yet want to listen to music or watch SprintTV all day or do things to tax my battery without worrying about running out of juice. My only hesitation is that these times for me are rare so I'm not sure I can justify the cost at the moment.

My comment number one. Seriously, can anyone do anything with the Palm lineup on this site without people finding something to gripe about? If Seidio had just announced a 5000mAh battery that fits into the stock door, I think it would elicit complaints. I honestly don't understand why some people even come to Palm based sites when all they do is complain. I know if I hated Palm that much I would find somewhere else to spend my time.

Try to be positive here Jack. He had a very difficult childhood. It started when the doctor got one look at him after delivery and did not spank him, but rather his mother. Kind of chain of events from that time forward. We all care about about him (and his twin) and are trying to help when we can. :-D

@JackG

There is a contingent here of disgruntled former Palm fans who keep coming back to gripe out of habit (or loneliness.) Unfortunately this forum doesn't seem to have an ignore function, you have to do that yourself.

Agreed. I'll be the first to criticize Palm for any of their (many) missteps. And Seidio's been known to have some CS issues in the past, along with slow order processing & rather steep prices. But I've always had excellent results with their Treo extended batteries and have purchased at least at least 5 of them over the years, either for myself or for someone else.

Palm should simply be ashamed of equipping the Treo 800w for such a weak battery. And even the Centro will drain a battery quickly, especially in a CDMA EVDO area or when trying to hang onto a marginal signal.

I applaud Seidio for not giving in to Palm's strongarm tactics or engineering difficulties or whatever the real reason for the nearly year-long delay in getting this battery to market. Sure, I'd like to see 1500 or 1600mah under the stock battery door but ANY improvement is welcome. If I had the choice between a Palm OEM battery for $40 and this extended Sedio one, I'd definitely take Seidio's. I'd not give the risk of fire/explosion/leakage on a Seidio battery any more worry than I would one with Palm's name on it.

Good job Seidio! Now just keep 'em in stock! Palm would be well-advised to spec something like this as standard on the Centro 2 (assuming there IS a Centro 2 in the works).

Pilot 1000->Pilot 5000->PalmPilot Pro->IIIe->Vx->m505->T|T->T|T2->T|C->T|T3->T|T5->Zodiac 2->TX->Verizon Treo 700P->Verizon Treo 755p

As do I. If I had a bad Seidio battery experience (product-related, not just slow shipping, unresponsive CS etc), I can assure you that you'd hear about it here.

Gekko, do you not kill your Centro battery during an average workday? Aren't you finding its battery life to be considerably less than your old Treo's?

my centro battery life is fine. but of course, i live in the free and modern world where either an outlet or car charger is available at least ONCE during the workday if needed. i'm not sure where you guys are trekking to without electricity and indoor plumbing? perhaps a remote construction site or excursions to the amazon river or sahara desert maybe??? and WhoTF are you people talking to? i know you all don't have that many friends.

I concur - I have chargers in several places in my house, in my car, and at work - allowing me to top off the charge as needed. No humpback whale for me! Before I'd ever do that, I'd carry one of those emergency chargers...

While I have neither a Centro nor a 800w I have had good performance out of my Seidio ext battery for my 680. As to charging, there are a lot of settings (courtrooms,factory floors, offsite meetings, some flights) where you can not always discreetly plug in your phone

Out Of Stock Already?

Seidio's website says it's available, but when I click on "add to cart" it says they are out of stock. Anybody actually able to order one yet?

Batteries and Palm gripers

omniryx @ 9/29/2008 7:36:45 AM # Q
Y'know, Gekko, if, as you say, you call them like you see them, and if that is the way you see the Palm battery situation, I recommend a trip to the eye doctor.

Seriously, if you don't need a big battery then happy happy on you. The fact is that some of us DO need extended capacity batteries even though I daresay we live in parts of the globe every bit as sophisticated as your own. Heck pshaw, some of us is even learnin' how to reed and rite.

Those of you who have spoken of the Palm bashers and eternal gripers are so very much on target. If Palm produced a phone that could talk to any place in the universe, cost nothing, came with a free lifetime plan with unlimited minutes, had a WiFi range of 27 miles, a Bluetooth range of a thousand yards, the computing capability of a Cray, included 10TB of memory, and ran on a tiny nuclear power pack that never needed replacement and generated no spurious radiation...someone like the Gekk Man would find reason to complain about it.

Probably because at least a year prior to that point in time the competition would have put out phones that could talk with video to any place in the universe, return money to the buyer, came with a free lifetime plan with unlimited minutes as well as free data, had a WiFi range of 270 miles, a Bluetooth range of a ten thousand meters, the computing capability of a Connection Machine, included 100TB of memory, and ran on air temperature changes and generated no radiation, period.

omniboy - if you've read my posts, you'd see that i have often praised the palm centro while many others have bashed it. i have also stated that its OEM battery life is just fine for most people. but when palm missteps, i will call them out on it despite what the apologists may say.

now, sir, it's time to put some shoes and move out of the sticks.

By the way, Seidio has the 2600 in stock, at least for the 800w. I have one right here in my hand.
