Unless I'm missing something here, this is extremely cool stuff, especially for those poor unfortunate souls forced to rely on a device that utilizes the memory card slot to give them wireless capability.
RE: Seems like a real breakthrough!
Yeah, this is really neat. But, having to hang around a PC for your content takes a bit outta the term "mobile".

This is a good idea. However, I for sure will petition to make sure these guys don't get a patent on this.
"Real time" wireless access to files on a PC from a PDA was demo'ed over ten years ago with the early Xerox PARC PDAs and even with a demo running on the first year of the Newton. Bottom line. You have a good product but there is way too much prior art to try to claim a patent here. RE: Seems like a real breakthrough!

You are overlooking how far the wireless connection may be. * Bluetooth to PC (from ~30 meters away). * WiFi to PC (from ~100 meters away). * WiFi to local area network to PC (from anywhere in the company/campus). * WiFi to Internet to local area network to PC (from any WiFi hotspot). * Bluetooth to cell phone to Internet to local area network to PC (from anywhere you have digital cell service).
This would be great if your streaming source was coming in over the cellular connection to the internet. Will the GPRS connection of the new treo 650 be fast enough for this
RE: Will it work with a treo 650 i.e. no WiFi/BT to server pc?
Although the connection would work, your bandwidth would limit what types of content you can use. Under perfect nobody-else-using-any-timeslots-and-the-weather-is-clear conditions, you can get up to 170kbps. In the real world it is more like 20 to 50kbps. That would work for 48kbps audio sometimes, but most MP3's are 128kbps or greater. Video is another story, my lowest bitrate video is a black and white film recorded at 90kbps xvid video, PLUS 80kbps audio at the same time. Yeah, I know about MobileTV over cellular, but the framerate is choppy and you need a magnifying glass to see the image. In my own use, I can reliably stream 28kbps audio feeds over cellular, but that is all. This product really calls for a broadband connection if you are going to experiment with quality streaming video.

Is there a Mac version? RE: *sigh* Here I go again...
Don't be a snark. What you really meant to ask was, "Will it run on the C=64 emulator on my TE?"
Clarity, man!
Hi,
actually I was expecting something like this to happen for quite some time now. The PalmOs VFS architecture always allowed third parties to add a VFS slot driver and a File System library-too bad that this is said to be missing in OS6. BTW, when does somethzing like this come out that supports regular FTP, WEBDAV and Windows SMB shares...
RE: Won't work on OS6 IMHOjust_little_me @ 1/26/2005 6:25:01 PM #
D'oh! What were the fools thinking?! Won't work on OS6... oh dear... I guess all those OS6 device owners will be crying today... oh, hang on...
This is nice for when you are in your house or at your work and you have to show a customer a huge database or a video. But for real multimedia solutions you need a WLAN Hard Drive Box like this one http://tinyurl.com/4tmwe from asus. But then you got the power problem and the server application can't run on this baby.

I am intrigued, it's a good idea. Can't wait to try the product. Website says 'coming Jan 25th' the few links on the site are broken. It's the 'flagship product' of a company with no other products. Sounds like they sent out the press release a wee bit too early.

March 1st, still not available. What do you have to say to that? RE: Nice vaporware announcementThe_Voice_of_Reason @ 3/2/2005 1:00:47 AM #

"Sounds like they sent out the press release a wee bit too early." Maybe they should make a Springboard version of this.
Press release: CUPERTINO, California — February 11, 2005 — Apple® announced today that Steve Jobs will begin selling his own feces to Apple Cultists beginning March 1. Apple's new iPoo™ lineup is expected to easily surpass the iPod shuffle as the company's most popular product. Yes, Apple Cultists can already easily create their own iPoo™, but feces didn't seem cool until Jobs told them it was cool. Remember, kids: the ONLY cool feces is Jobs' highly individualistic, rebellious iPoo™ (coming soon in six different colors/flavors, including the red [hematochezia] and black [melena] U2 GI bleed model) *************************************************************************************
I got an email offer from Is Complete. They want me to try out their new software called WiFiGenie. I have a T|T5 but does not have wireless connection to test. It seems can mount a network disk into a memory card. If they do, my justification of buying a SD WiFi could be stronger...
Can someone try it out and let use know ? WiFiGenie's URL http://www.iscomplete.org/Store/WiFiGenie.asp RE: Is that a similar software can do exactly the same thing
I downloaded the iscomplete demo of wifile onto my T3. It seems to have one major problem though in that it detects and connects fine to my laptop & it's shares. The card shows up fine but the T3 is not able to read the card. It just asks 'Do you want to format the card' and actually never mounts it. It shows up in Card Info as a network storage with an unknown size and format. RE: Is that a similar software can do exactly the same thing ?
suiciety
Just wondering if you ever figured out what was causing wifigenie to want to format the folder. I have the same problem I've sent numerous emails to Wifigenie support, at first they seemed to want to help then they quit answering all together. finally they offered my money back or asked that I wait two weeks. They stated that they were having problems with the small packet size and was working on it. Anyway, I use Explorer and really want for this to work. I wasnt sure if it was my setup or WiFiGenie. TIA
